Popular Post terrytini
Just seen this in Pre Match thread. Accidentally posted this there... Ah, bugger. Just opened VT. Saw @TROhad replied to a post, so replied. Up pops the next page and I discover Sir Ron has gone. Talk about Right Man, Right Time, Right Club. If we ever get a Manager who achieves half what he did we will be very lucky. He Won the League, but a couple of years before produced the most exciting football team I’ve ever seen. It was a great privilege to watch his sides at VP.

The one that got promoted, the one that finished 4th in 76/77 and then the one that won the league and European Cup. The 5-1 at ht against the mighty Liverpool was my fav match ever Rip love you Ron Echo that.

1974Centenary
When your young, people in sports leave you with such a good feeling inside that upon their passing they leave you with a feeling of sadness ,Bob willis earlier this week and now Ron saunders. I recall my dad and me signing a petition to bring him back, but obviously to no avail. Thanks Ron.

TreeVillan
I'm too young to remember him myself, but will be eternally thankful for what he did for us.

We don't do enough at Villa to cherish and celebrate our greats. This would be a fitting start. A true Holte End hero now in the sky. Maybe if/when we rebuild it. I wouldn't want to put his name on the current shithole, personally.

Popular Post sheepyvillian
If anyone understood the importance of a successful Aston Villa it was Ron Saunders. He was a straight shooter, who didn't suffer fools as many a player found to their cost. He also brought some great players, our greatest captain, Dennis Mortimer, one of our greatest centre forwards, Andy Gray, who, despite scoring 30 goals in one season, was shown the door for having the temerity to question the training methods the manager was famous for. He was eventually replaced by some journey man called Peter Withe, and the rest, as they say, is history. Thanks, Sir Ron, for giving me some of the happiest memories ever, may you rest in peace.
sheepyvillian
He was so much revered, that even going on to manage our hated rivals was of no detriment to this wonderful man's legacy.

meregreen
Just heard this sad news. He gave me and so many other Villa fans the best years of our lives when he managed our club. Thanks Ron RIP.
KenjiOgiwara
Correct me if I got this wrong, but when we got promoted in the 70s with Saunders, we won the league cup. The opposition in the final was Norwich and Norwich is the club we're facing boxing day?

maqroll
Before my time as a Villa fan, but always well aware of his accomplishments, legacy and stature at Villa and beyond. Big loss, but a big life too. R.I.P.
