Selling Duran and Luiz would allow us to get a HUGE signing later in the window.

WallisFrizz
12 minutes ago, The_Steve said: I will say that it’s quite common for PR type interviews to take place a few weeks or days prior with a publication embargo. I’m guessing it’s the same with player interviews. But again, nothing in Dougie’s words sound like a player who is wanting to leave or has issues with Unai. I don’t think we can read anything into it, it’s mainly about him breaking into the Brazil team. Kind of odd to big up the Premier League as the best in the world if you know you’re about to move to Serie A though.

People just speculating that Duran sale could mean he stays (can't see that being the case). Oh and he did an interview (probably a week or so ago) saying how much he likes the Premier League and Unai. Popular Post Demitri_C
If dougie wants to go i have no hard feelings towards him. He has a model pro for us. His attitude has been nothing but 1st class. I will wish him all the best and hope he suceeds if he goes
Villarocker
20 minutes ago, Powehi said: Would be so weird for him to give that interview then bugger off. Just something isn't right here with this deal. I know a guy whose daughter goes to school with Emi Martinez's son. Last year, he apparently said goodbye to her in the summer because he believed his dad was joining Man Utd. That obviously didn't happen but it could be an example of how close a deal can be but then not go through?

Without signing that we are forced to sell him regardless at his peak remaining value.
The Fun Factory
Seems inevitable he will have to go due to the FFP rules which seem to stop teams entering the cartel, sorry I mean the top 6. It is a pile of shit that even with CL qualification we will end up being a glorified Brighton despite the protests of our owners and CEO. Gap impossible to breach. If he does go I'd rather we have hard cash then any swaps. For every Carew from Baros there is Ireland from Milner. I wouldn't be swayed by any club PR fluffery, it is business as usual until a player goes. Remember Grealish with the new villa shirt photos. We don't need "hard cash" our owners are loaded and don't need money, they're prevented from putting money in because of PSR. The value of the players in the swap deal are included to help with PSR, so it doesn't matter if we have a player worth £25m or £25m in money, it's the same thing in PSR terms. Davkaus
It's absolutely baffling that he'd sign a new contract when he wasn't a guaranteed starter under Gerrard, but wasn't to leave now, if he goes I reckon it's the club that pushed him to go rather than him wanting to leave
duke313
Seen on Twitter that City have a 20% sell on clause, surely that's expired since he started a new contract? If so, would explain why we might be doing a "swap deal".

If we agreed to buy him with that 20% clause, then that’s between the clubs, not the player

Wouldn't that mean that City still get the 20% off the full fee?

Popular Post Zhan_Zhuang
54 minutes ago, The_Steve said: Long interview in the Guardian “What he did was simple. He organised my game well with Boubacar Kamara. Kamara’s arrival helped me a lot. He’s a young player I’ve always got on well with, who has always understood my game style. With his arrival, I’ve had more freedom,” explained the midfielder. “Today I see myself more as a second midfielder than a first. The freedom that Unai has given me with Kamara has made my job a lot easier. You can clearly see that. A good example is Kamara’s injury. After that I had to play further back and I didn’t take part in the attack as much, I didn’t score as many goals as before because I had to help more in a defensive way.” On Unai “Unai is a little bit crazy,” he laughs. “I say it because of his sense of intensity. He’s very passionate about what he does. Very intense in his work and in the things he wants. Sometimes it’s quite funny. In that last game against Liverpool, he celebrated Jhon Durán’s goal, he got emotional, said a lot of things and then in the dressing room he looked like a completely different person. “It’s great to work with him and be part of this moment we’re living. But what I like most about him is that he always tries to understand the athlete’s personal side, the human being. He always calls us to talk in person. I see a lot of clarity in that conversation” On the Premier League “It’s the best league in the world. Everyone wants to play here and feel the atmosphere on the pitch. The history of the Premier League is very big. We, Brazilians, are smart enough to know that the Premier League is the best league in the world and everyone wants to feel that emotion, to play for a big club. That’s really cool.” The second difference is the more professional behaviour of the players themselves, as Douglas Luiz explains. “I can’t say that my generation is smarter or understands more than others. But the time teaches. We have lots of good and bad examples to analyse and not make the same mistakes. In the past, Brazilians were considered lazy, who didn’t want to run, who didn’t want to mark the opponents. But that has certainly changed. Today, we have a generation that isn’t silly. It’s a smart generation. We’ve seen the mistakes of the past and today we’ve managed to change the way many countries and people looked at us. “In the Premier League, you have to focus 100% on football. You can’t think about anything else. It’s a league that demands a lot from you daily, in training and matches. That’s the only way to succeed. That’s the secret to success here.” https://www.theguardian.com/football/article/2024/jun/12/douglas-luiz-unai-emery-aston-villa-brazil-football?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter Interesting timing for The Guardian to put that out today, weird... Seen some chat from Delaney on X saying that if Jhon Durán can be sold soon then there is no need to sell Luiz.
