Wes
Will fondly remember his time with us, all stemming from that random twitter post of a friend of Dean Smith's son who was studying in the US all those years ago.

Tommo_b
Shame. Really liked Dougie as a player, lots of quality about him on and off the pitch.

Popular Post Teale's 'tache
Well, this is a post I'd hoped I'd never have to write. Luiz is probably my favourite Villa player, I'm not saying he is the best we've got, or the only one that makes the team tick or whatever, but he's just entertaining, he's Joga Bonito, he plays football the way it should be played, with joy, for fun and with no shortage of ability. There's not enough of that these days with the rise in overly tactical approaches and robot players with 'very particular skill sets'. He's worth the entry fee, he's a player you want to go and watch. He takes risks, he doesn't always go for the easy obvious option, never too scared to go and get the ball, he just has fun and I have fun watching him play, I'm going to miss that. This MadLad even bangs in goals direct from corners for Pete's sake! I trust him with the ball, no matter where he is on the pitch, and I've not been able to say that about too many Villa players in the past. I'll miss the sense of certainty every time he stood over a penalty because he never missed (apart from that one time, but I don't want to talk about that...). I'll miss the consistently good delivery from set plays, I'll miss the passionate and then silly goal celebrations, I'll miss his ridiculous variety of hairstyles/colours and his bushy, but nowhere near Olof level, beard. He'll be replaced, life will go on, and we'll still be good, as proven when he missed a few games this year, he's important to us, but he's not the difference, nobody is, we are a team now, a combination of everyone's strengths rather than one individuals. He's been a really good buy, 5 years of good service, no boat rocking, no real injury issues, just reliable, steadily excellent performances, and a whole bucket of good times (apart from the Gerrard era, but again I don't want to talk about that...). Technically, ball at his feet, I think he's been the best midfielder we've had since Cowans, there I've said it, Sid was more rounded, and more tenacious, but technically, picking and playing the right pass, quality of delivery, playing in tight spaces, I think there are similarities. I just don't think we'll replace that sense of fun, and I will miss it. I don't like this deal/sale, but it is what it is, the rules as they are mean we have to sell sometimes and it's not always going to be who we want to sell, I accept it. One last thing. No Bertie? No Dougie? No party... Edited June 11 by Teale's 'tache typo in my typo

lainux
Would be good to put in a buy back option, then we can buy him back and spread payment over 5 years and then have killed a few birds with one stone Edited June 11 by lainux
Spoony
I hate this deal. Swaps are always bullshit. Think Carew is the one exception to that. We’ve been had - why can’t we just take cash??

ender4
Thanks for the memories Luiz. Very sad to see him go. I also thought he was easily worth £70-90m, so a bit surprised at £17m plus two players who I don’t think are worth £60m between them.
Popular Post JPAngel Posted June 11 VT Supporter Popular Post Share Posted June 11 I've come to the conclusion that some people are refusing to read what's actually happening with this deal in terms of how it's financed and what it means to our PSR efforts. 5

We’ve been had - why can’t we just take cash?? There is not a chance that either club will have taken this as a swap deal in terms of accounts. PSR/FFP is too big a thing. If it happens, it will be a swap in the pure sense rather than an accounting one. i.e: (say) We sell Luiz for £60m, then buy McKennie for £30m and Iling Jr for £10m. The "deal" is a swap + £20m, but the books will show the immediate boost in income. It's the only way that makes sense for both clubs. On Luiz, he's a very good player and seems to be a really likeable person - but I think he's... the most 'replaceable' excellent player we have. I hope he does really well at Juve should it happen.
