It’s not the first time he has tried to be a little bit too clever in big games and been punished for it. Why change something that got you to the final and just won you the league. Crazy. when I saw the line-up I suspected they would be in trouble, its hard to say that in light of the worlds best manager... The Chelsea offering was one of the best displays of defensive football, I have seen for some time, their reliance on the counter was perfect for a game like this. The bit that baffled me was, because city abandoned the holding midfielder, they won the ball back too deep and subsequently had to travel too far with their attacks......This was a major boo-boo for me. Pep looked tired and need of a rest, in contrast to a vibrant and effevescent Tuchel......City will come back from this, but it shows to me, no matter how clever you are, mistakes can be made. also, I thought James and Chilwell, booked their starting place in the Euro's.....James has some talent. Jack of all trades rather than specialising or excelling in one particular area, other than Nakamba who is purely a destroyer but lacking in many other aspects. We lack strength and the ability to dominate in there… needs addressing. And we must stop losing possession so cheaply & quickly. for me its so damn obvious....The players are too samey......Its the differences in the 3/4 players that create the whole or the balance. They are not bad players, but they are just good at the same job......so jobs go missing. as an example Cowans-Mortimer- Bremner .....were all different and provided the complete midfield, by those differences. I don't see, what you see.....but I will be delighted if you are right, leaving me wrong. I have no doubt, he is a good footballer, but that is not what the debate is about. The shape also meant their top goalscorer had to become a defensive midfielder. Crazy. Pep even changed the captain twice after KDB went off. I agree the pressure got to him.

Taken us as far as he can !". It really does show how undervalued the watercarriers/DMs are. Edited May 30, 2021 by JAMAICAN-VILLAN

They are not eye candy, so easily overlooked in some quarters. watching Des Bremner, taught me the dark arts. I would say, they are my favourite players to look out for now.....In so much as I find the position fascinating. I like the Vincent de Bosque quote relating to holding players......"watch Barcelona and you don't notice Busquets, watch Busquets and you see the whole Game".....that sums it up for me. Popular Post M_Afro
Is it 2 days until his buy back clause runs out? Looks very unlikely that it will be taken advantage of now. Good news in my view. I think he needs a rest and he will be really good come the start of the season.

Really amazed - and pleased - they haven’t come back for him. Hopefully a new 5 year contract when he gets back from international duty.
Phil Silvers
Dougie's drop off in form was all part of the masterplan, next season Dougie will become full on Dunga.
Hobsons Choice Posted June 3, 2021 VT Supporter Share Posted June 3, 2021 For whatever reason Doug has kind of felt like a loan player with that buy back clause hanging over him. I’ve not really been able to emotionally invest in him, but I will when the clause lapses.

TRO
I never had any doubt in my mind that Man City, would not trigger the clause.....I thought it was Pie in the Sky. Dougie is an enigma for me....but I have not given up on him and at 23 still has plenty of time. He strikes me as a player who needs some one on one, dedicated work, to make him the player we want him to be.....similar to how Jack was worked on after his kidney injury. He has undoubted talent, but lacks some of those necessary ingredients that allow those talents to flourish....He needs to learn how to be more imposing, more like Kante. He can be at times, for me, a bit better version of Hourihane in his general play....its not enough. I feel he has something, but I equally feel he lacks something, in equal measures. I hope he comes back, like the player, who we saw after lockdown, the season before last....probably our best player, during that period. McGinn said in a recent interview that Luiz would be the worst person to sit by on the coach because he still doesn’t speak English. If there’s one-on-one work to do it’s probably that, you can’t fully integrate and be comfortable around people you can’t communicate with. In his defence - City were beaten by Tuchel twice in the run up to the Champions League final - and played either Fernandinho or Rodri (or maybe even both) in those games and lost. You can't blame him for trying to blindside Tuchel. They were arguably much more competitive on Saturday night than they were in either of the previous games where Chelsea beat them. When Pep did bring him on they still didn't really look like clicking.
