PompeyVillan
I thought he was partly culpable for the third, he was a bit soft and let the Spurs midfielder past him a bit too easily. He's not quite up to speed yet and will definitely get better. He'll be gunning for Hourihane.
Mooley22
He looked a little slow to me.he was chasing back a few times and was no where near keeping up with whoever had the ball
QldVilla Posted August 11, 2019 VT Supporter Share Posted August 11, 2019 He came on when we were under the pump, I thought I saw glimpses of a very good player, but he will need time to adapt.
ozvillafan Posted August 11, 2019 VT Supporter Share Posted August 11, 2019 The most interesting bit is the position he took up. He started defending in midfield about 8 yards out from the box - roughly where he should expect to be...... ... only to look around and realise everybody else bar Kodjia was behind him. He'll do fine once he gets a run of games.
LondonLax
He made a good tackle, winning back the ball, and he also lost his man contributing to costing us a goal late on. Needs more time to settle in to the team and hopefully we can see the best from him.
Davkaus
I was looking at the BBC write up of the game, noticed some bloke called Soares de Paulo on the bench, and wondered "who the **** is that guy?"

Keyblade
Thought he was an immediate improvement on Hourihane on the ball. Moved it quick and incisively. Struggled with the pace of the game though, but that will come with time. I think he's going to be a huge player for us.
lapal_fan
3rd goal was due to him. Didn't see him other than that. Too early to judge, but was disappointed with that bit of play.
Vive_La_Villa
I think he will be a big player for us. Has something about him. Yes he struggled a bit on Saturday but that was probably one of the hardest games and circumstances to come on to for you debut. Just compare his contribution next to Kodjia and Jota as an example of how difficult it was. At least he managed to touch the ball a few times. villalad21
Badly need him in midfield. Looks very strong and tidy on the ball. Also looks quick, exactly the physicality we need in midfield. As much as i love Hourihane, he is not a dmf, not at this level.
a m ole
Very interesting. Firstly I think he’s going to be great for us. However his tracking for their second and tackle for their third were poor, things Hourihane would be slaughtered for.

I was so against playing Hourihane there, but he was fine in comparison. I think Luis looked off the pace (the Spurs pace...they were very strong in the second half). It was a near impossible situation to come in and make a difference. Hopefully Nakamba or Luis make the position their own soon enough through their quality, which we're all hoping they have. Stevo985 Posted August 12, 2019 VT Supporter Share Posted August 12, 2019 Being fit and being match fit are too entirely different things. It will take the guy a few weeks to get up to speed. I'm hugely excited by him. Bit it's all down to hype. LIterally the only time I've seen him play is Saturday's few minutes. I didn't even bother with the YouTube videos
Vive_La_Villa
I think the fact he got thrown on when he had literally only been in the country around 6 days shows how much he must be rated by Smith.
VILLAMARV
I liked the fist bump between Deano and him when he went on.
