privateer
Didn't do a thing right. It looked like a **** up sending him on within minutes and he got no better. He was bordering on a liability in terms of the effect he had on the game.
terrytini
So....he looked very good against lower League opposition, and poor against Champions League opposition. Quite a shock that ! Maybe next week against a team somewhere in the middle of that spectrum, he will look like a player somewhere between poor and very good.
villalad21
Was a poor sub from Smith. Not a game suited for Jota.
DCJonah
We needed to try and keep the ball, none of our front 3 were doing it, so I could see why he came on. However we had no one offering support and had no time to get players forward. Jota could do little.

KenjiOgiwara
He didn't do much right or wrong. He had one poor pass, but Jota is the kind of player that excels when we are in possession. The match yesterday was just wrong for him.
Villarocker
I bet that was the worst display of his career. Every time he got the ball he either passed it straight to an opponent or got dispossessed easily. He won't be that bad again.

AVTuco Posted August 11, 2019 VT Supporter Share Posted August 11, 2019 Championship quality, unfortunately. His price was about right.

Stockport_Villain
There’s some drama queens on here at times. How anyone can make an assessment of a player based on 30 mins is beyond me. Let’s see what people’s opinions are at the end of the season. I’m betting on him being seen as a positive signing.
lapal_fan
He doesn't have possess much pace or power, and he gave the ball away needlessly twice from my memory. But I'd be a right daft word removed if I slag him off after one, 15 minute cameo when we're severely under the cosh. He'll be fine, but I believe Davis would have been a better option (even if he wasn't in the squad..)

MikeMcKenna Posted August 11, 2019 VT Supporter Share Posted August 11, 2019 (edited) You are the manager; the team are constantly on the back foot, getting hammered in the 2nd half, a new player Trezeguet is seeing very little of the ball. On the bench you have a player; Jota, that fans were raving about during the friendlies and were predicting would start. Do you stick or twist? The criticism Jota is receiving is pathetic. If Smith hadn’t made a change, he would have been slagged for not making a change. Edited August 11, 2019 by MikeMcKenna

Ponky
I just think Jota looked a bit overwhelmed by the occasion. Deer in the headlights. Doesn't make him a rubbish player or not cut out for the PL. Won't have been the first person making his premier league debut to have been caught in the moment. Question is how does he respond next time he's called on. Will be a good test of character for him and it would not surprise me to see him start next game. Monsieur Hazdazler
He looked great in preseason when playing in tandem with Guilbert, as the latter always provided an option for him. Yesterday in his cameo he was perhaps overwhelmed by the pace but also no one looked good in that period late in the game

I think the 3 players coming on at that time were victims of the situation more than anything else.
ozvillafan Posted August 12, 2019 VT Supporter Share Posted August 12, 2019 Judge him again when we have players in the opposition half and Guilbert outside him.
