My parents moved to a predominantly white area when I was a kid as felt it would be better up bringing there for me . However as the only Asian lad I spent my whole childhood suffering from racism or in fear of it. It's not a nice way to grow up. We left that area eventually and I made new friends. I met other Asians that have told me they had never suffered from racism in their life. It really shocked me as I grew up believing racism was just part of life I had to accept. So since then I have made sure my children would always grow up and go to a school in a diverse community. My children do not know what racism is. Of course racism exists and always will do. But it's a lot harder to handle when you're alone when against it. Edit: the area I grew up is 3 miles from where I live now. As far as I know racism could be non existent in that area now. It still bothers me when I ever have to drive through there.
