mikeyp102
I see Dwight Yorke is weighing in again on the race debate. Again saying he doesn’t get interviews because he’s black. He’s also saying that the only reason he is labelled a “playboy” is because the colour of his skin. So in the first point, I’m sure there is discrimination at football clubs, and the likes of Lampard, Gerard and Terry to name a few have all got big jobs with little experience. But they also put in work and tried to get experience at other places. They are also players who were leaders on the pitch and always expected to go into coaching. Dwight Yorke, does not scream as the type of player who would make a coach, I don’t recall him captaining many clubs. Also has he ever applied for any other jobs, because all he ever mentions is that he tried for the Villa job twice and got rejected. If he wanted a role that much he’d apply for others. Long winded way of saying it, but I don’t think Dwight Yorke is rejected because of his race. On the second part, I’ve never heard the term playboy as a racist term. The first footballer I think of when hearing that term is George Best. I’d say the reason Dwight Yorke is called a playboy is because he allegedly shagged glamour models, and allegedly made a porno with bozzie
Davkaus
I wouldn't want Yorke at Villa because he's a complete word removed. Campbell is another one who comes across as an egotistical prick with a chip on his shoulder. The numbers do make you wonder though.

I think Sol Campbell's shout is more believable if all we have to go by is speculation. When you look at the statistics it really does seem fishy though. I wonder what Patrick Viera has to say about this. I expected him to be managing a big club by now.

No no no no no That can get in the queue with all those other red, white and blue stripes. It’s fascinating that places can have absolutely any design they fancy and so many go for those basic red, white, blue variants.

It's an utterly stupid line for people to take. On the subject of it being said to white people, though, I have heard it said to/directed at white people though not so much recently. It was often trotted out against union leaders and various Labour politicians in the 80s - "Why don't you go and live in Russia if you hate it here so much?" was quite a common refrain from memory. Edit: Just caught up with your (and other) subsequent posts saying similar to the above. Edited June 9, 2020 by snowychap

Maybe there is something in it I don't know but the ones that have been in management like Henry haven't exactly done that well. As far as MPS go I'm sure theres quite a few Asian mps.

Yeah credit to Campbell he at least went to get a job in the lower leagues and was willing to learn. Looking up Vieira it appears he’s at Nice now. You would expect him to be in a bigger profile role, infact you’d think more from that French team would’ve made coaches Thuram, Desailly definitely spring to mind as people who I would picture going into management. The amount of black players in the game, you’d think there would more who go into management, and if they haven’t had it been racism stopping them.

Vieria was the captain of The Invincibles, won a World Cup, Euros etc, it's actually wild when you think about it. It's not like he didn't do his due diligence with his badges, assistant coaching etc. His nemesis Roy Keane even got to manage in the Prem, or even his much lower profile Arsenal teammate and compatriot Remi Garde

Keyblade
Gary Neville managing Valencia is like if Patrice Evra managed Leverkusen shortly after retirement. Still boggles the mind that one.
Follyfoot Posted June 9, 2020 VT Supporter Share Posted June 9, 2020 I thought big Dave got the boot at the Albion a little too quickly for my liking, (Good job in retrospect because if he’d been manager in the play-off semis I think they probably would have beat us)

Pretty sure they would have beat us if he was still there, thank God the chairman was a fool. Edited June 9, 2020 by Keyblade

He needed someone to take over Valencia quickly on a short term basis until the end of the season. Kind of makes sense to a point as Neville was highly regarded as a coach at that time.
