sheepyvillian
That Bournemouth song, " if Mings can play for England so can I ". I think they had a point yesterday.
Popular Post KentVillan
One of the comments: “Regretting leaving Bournemouth then?” Mings replies: “Hell no” Tyrone is a Villan. Poor game on Saturday, but he will be one of the players who keeps us up this season.

Never will.

thabucks
Interesting stats regarding Tyrone ... Danny Welbeck has made more tackles than him ! https://www.90min.com/posts/6557037-tyrone-mings-has-made-7-tackles-this-season-that-s-fewer-than-danny-welbeck-and-more-stats?utm_source=RSS Quote There are 480 footballers who have made a Premier League appearance this season. Only 160 of them have made fewer tackles than Mings' seven (SEVEN!) – and 36 of those are goalkeepers. 57 of them have played fewer than 100 minutes of league football. 246 Premier League footballers this season have missed more tackles than Tyrone Mings has completed. Aaron Wan-Bissaka makes four tackles per game. Mings makes one every three games. If you go to an Aston Villa game, you are as likely to see Tyrone Mings take a shot at goal as you are to see him make a tackle. Has he committed more fouls than he's made tackles? You betcha! He's got five yellow cards to his seven successful tackles.

Whilst I would also argue against this stat also, it really isn't. He isn't Maldini. He just more of a blocker, he stands off people , backs off, holds them up just long enough for cover, and makes them make a decision. Quite often last man. I don't want my last line of defence having to make tackles to be honest. 1. It means he is getting exposed. 2. It usually means the cavalray isn't coming.

Kinda agree but this stat also stands out ... Quote Interceptions, that's where it's at. Interceptions are for the top tier defenders. Interceptions, like what Mings has...17 of this season? That's fewer than one a game. 120 players have made more interceptions this season, including Willian, Dwight McNeil and Miguel Almiron. Basically he is the top dog in terms of last ditch blocks ...
Popular Post KentVillan
There’s a big misunderstanding about these tackle stats. If you look throughout the league, it’s midfielders and full backs who tend to make the most tackles, because the ball is much more often there to be won in those positions, and it’s a gamble they can afford to take. Being a centre back (especially in the sweeping position Mings plays) is more about reading the game - picking up loose balls, offering for the out ball, blocking runs, intercepting, slowing down attacks, winning headers. If your CB is putting in a massive tackle, something has gone wrong. Also the difference between a tackle and a block isn’t always obvious. Often a “block” is just a tackle that happens as a player is shooting. So I wouldn’t read too much into Mings’s tackle stats.
ThunderPower_14
If Mings was wantonly trying to make tackles all the time we'd probably concede 10 goals a game. I'm not even worried about the interception stats, because he's probably positioning himself well enough most of the time that people aren't trying to make passes by him. KenjiOgiwara
Very often though blocks are just another word for good positioning and anticipation. You can defend a lot of ways but players who are good at this and reading the game generally are very sound at winning the ball without big errors. If you look at Mings it's almost never his ball recovery or physical defending that puts him in a mess, it's his beckenbauer'esque turns and dribbles that leads to errors.

Aston_Villan4
If you look at other, more important, stats for his position, you’ll see he’s one of the best. Clearances he’s tied for 7th With 119 and clearances off line he’s 1st with 3. He’s also 1st in blocks with 36. The problem with these stats is that you expect teams that are always under pressure to natuurally have lots of clearances and blocks. So its unfair to compare these stats for players across different teams. Edited February 14, 2020 by Laughable Chimp
