Popular Post Designer1 Posted December 8, 2018 VT Supporter Popular Post Share Posted December 8, 2018 Similar to the @bickster album thread, no particular order or amount required. Just a UK realise in 2018. Another great year for movies, and even though it didn't quite reach the level of quality from last year there's still plenty of great movies of all genres to check out. My picks:
Popular Post wazzap24
I'm sure it's just an oversight @Designer1, but your list appears to be missing the only real, credible candidate for film of the year. 5

theboyangel
Best film of the year for me was A Quiet Place - terrific stuff also really enjoyed Calibre, mission impossible: fallout, avengers infinity war and I, Tonya

choffer Posted December 10, 2018 VT Supporter Share Posted December 10, 2018 I've had another year of hardly seeing any of the movies I wanted to so I'm going to have to play catch-up. Thanks for @Designer1 for giving me 7 new movies to watch. I'll have a think and see what my list will be although I've seen so few, I'd imagine it'll be a short list.
choffer Posted December 10, 2018 VT Supporter Share Posted December 10, 2018 (edited) I've given it some thought and am staggered at how few movies I've seen this year. Think I'm going to have to make up for it and have a binge over Christmas. My limited (to what I can remember) list so far would be: Journeyman Funny Cow On Chesil Beach Bombshell - The Hedy Lamarr Story The Shape of Water You Were Never Really Here Mute Edited December 10, 2018 by choffer
Rodders
I've seen plenty of films, in general catching up on my old DVD list so have enjoyed some classics for the first time, but scanning my cinema trips indicates a seeing plenty of really good films, but not much that was breathtaking. Though for cinematic experience I'm putting First Man and seeing 2001: A Spacey Odyssey when it was re-released for the 50th anniversary at the top of the list. They were superb, whilst Leave No Trace is just astoundingly beautiful and moving. Most of them are biggish / mainstream hit films but here's my list anyway. As much as I actually enjoyed Mamma Mia 2 more than I expected, it's not making the cut! ;). Edit: forgot A Quiet Place - that was excellent, though my cinematic experience of that was ruined somewhat by some chavvy teenagers laughing loudly throughout. rocket polishers. Edge of Tomorrow of a couple of years ago was another recent bit of fun that was well done. I know he's got the whole wackjob scientology thing, but film wise, I can't deny he's made some thoroughly entertaining films of late. I also saw A Few Good Men for the first time this year too - he was good in that too
Designer1 Posted December 10, 2018 Author VT Supporter Share Posted December 10, 2018 Because I watched all 3 at the end of 2017 via erm...other means, I'd got it in my head that Shape of Water, 3 Billboards and Ladybird were all 2017 UK releases. Schoolboy error, as they would definitely have been on my list.
Rodders
Yeah, it's odd, the Oscar nom films always feel like they're last year films because they've had their awards, but they were right at the beginning of the year. I may be cheating with Molly's Game as I think it came out on New Years Eve 2017, but screw it.

If it's got Cruise in it, it's highly unlikely I'll watch it. As an aside, we have one of those Scientology types at work and my favourite thing in the world is to tell her I can't stand TC. She genuinely believes that he is the single best actor who ever lived and there isn't a film in his canon that is not the best film ever. It's like shooting fish in a barrel but sometimes it's just too easy to set her off. 1
Zatman
Not a great year movie wise from what I have seen though havent been cinema jn last 6 months. One of best I did catch was I am not an Easy Man a French comedy about sexism on Netflix Not everybody taste but Avengers did live up to the hype For an English language comedy Game Night was surprisingly good though not one for a top list
Stevo985 Posted December 10, 2018 VT Supporter Share Posted December 10, 2018 If "3 Billboards..." counts as a 2018 release then that's my Film of the Year, no doubt. Honourable mentions for A Quiet Place A Star is Born and The Shape of Water Hoping to see "Sorry to Bother You" this week so that might make a late entry. Risso
Nice to see some recommendations, going to work my way through a few of those. Seems that all Hollywood is interested in these days is bloody Marvel rubbish.
sne
As expected it's mostly horror/sci-fi and that sort of stuff. Not gotten around to watching that many new movies this year so got a bit of catching up to do. Really recommend Roma, saw it when i was in Copenhagen. Think it's out on Netflix soon? Edit: Having just spent the afternoon watching Leave No Trace I'll definitely have that one as a late addition to my list.
