It might be a low bar for Villa if you take into considertation the club's entire history. 

But a team containing Trezegut, Samatta and Bjorn Engels? Keeping them up is an achievement.

Well that low bar you speak of, Bruce failed to clear it in two years (busy failing at his third attempt when he was asked to leave) and Gerrard was doing his best to take us back there a year being in charge.

So yeah, from a Villa fan perspective, if Bruce landed a premier league gig having had a spectacularly bad spell with a championship side (let’s say, ooooh…West Brom) yes there would be ridicule. Rightly so.

Leicester are desperate to stay in the league. He kept Villa up so can evidence that he is able to do what they require. 

Out of interest, who of the following managers do you think deserve to be in the Premier League:

Arteta, Emery, O'Neil, Frank, De Zerbi, Lampard, Hodgson, Dyche, Silva, Gracia, Klopp, Guardiola, Ten Hag, Cooper, Selles, Stellini, Lopetegui.

Because guess what - they’re paid to do well too.

Watkins is doing well with the old goal scoring ain’t he? Well too ****ing right, that’s what he’s paid for. Oh another clean sheet is it Emi? Yeah let me know when you’re doing it for free.

I also fail to see the undue emotion and sentiment in @Don_Simon’s posts. 

I don’t believe Smith could get a better job than this, but it’s not that far fetched that he got this (clearly not, because it’s happened). We got over the line with him in charge when we looked dead and buried, it’s not unrealistic it could happen again.

Fair enough. It is blatant double standards but if that sits well with you then fair play, I personally couldn't be that disingenuous with myself. 

And btw, you do know after the Play Off Final - Deano said every credit had to be given to Steve Bruce for promotion  - so maybe you need to give more respect to Brucie for his work in that promotion.  And what was the five game losing run that cost Smith his job? We were heading downwards with a better squad under Deano too, like you say that we were going to under Gerrard.

Deano and Jack are untouchable among a sect of the fanbase mate.

Some people will still try to convince you that Thomas Franks current success is down to Deano, and that Jack was just tired the morning he was outside McCormacks playing bumper cars. lol

Anyway, obviously forever grateful to Deano for what he did for us, and especially as one of our own, but it appears he is just an " ok " Manager.

I was reading comments from some Norwich and Brentford fans on the Leicester appointment posts and they weren't so favourable.

Leicester will have always been a better fit for him though, over Norwich, it's just a shame he has gotten them in such a dire position.

It's good that he has the likes of JT with him, they obviously have a strong relationship, and it just may come good!

Leicester are obviously a much better squad with a much higher ceiling, so the potential is there for him to do well.

Bollocks Bruce was total **** toilet compared to Smith, as was Gerrard.

Please explain how it’s blatant double standards. You mean Villa supporters feeling better disposed to a manager that had actual success with Villa? Weird, I know. 

The little compliment about Bruce. Oh right, one manager being a bit magnanimous toward his predecessor after the play off win. Yes you’re right, that’s me told. Bruce really laid the groundwork for the promotion success. Three wins in the opening eleven and he threw in a crocked James Chester - Smith’s cup runneth over!

As for the five game run of defeats, I felt it was right for Smith to go. But, that doesn’t mean to say I think we would have been relegated. If you gave me the option of sticking with Smith in 21/22 in order to survive or sticking with Gerrard in 22/23 in order to survive, I’ll take the former every single time.

I'll always respect and love Deano for what he did for us. As a Villa fan, he got us out of the Championship, kept us up and then turned us into a very decent team. However, i think he will be like Little and Gregory, in that he will never top his time at Villa and won't have success anywhere else. He'll be a Villa icon but won't have a wider legacy. Still a legend though!

Yes, probably the right time for him to leave and he isn't capable of what Emery has done. I don't care if he fails at every other club, what he did for us was massive.

Wow. Amazing that someone could live through the same experiences as the rest of us for the last few years and yet come out with this.

I get the feeling they're going all in for Potter if they stay up.

That said if DS can get them over the line he'll have other opportunities in prem so there's plenty at stake for him. Said before he'd be a good fit for Palace with how they presently are as a club and commitment to developing young players, Southampton aswell if they stay up.
