VillanousOne
so i presume if we lose to a strong Everton side who are unbeaten so far, this forum will melt down and an angry mob led by some posters on here will be going to down to Villa Park to demand Dean resigns? They are strong but we matched them last season and even got a win at their place so, if they are pushing on this season and we are struggling still then something isn't right somewhere… Howcome they would have been able to push on whilst we go backwards? Quite important that we get a result, to be honest. Edited September 16, 2021 by Tayls Typo

At the moment we have been going into matches - like we are going into a poker match with one card missing from our hand. Even if we have most of players ready to start the match, we are still behind Everton in terms of overall preparation and team synergy/sharpness. Dean may work miracles in training but the fact is half this team has never played together, most have barely trained together.

MWARLEY2
Rafa is a great coach. And Everton are playing like we did at the start of last season. Ran out of moeny due to ffp but like Smith he improves players especially tactically. They are a dark horse this season. Will not be pretty if we lose but theres defo a team out of our 22 players that have the ability to go on a good run at some point. That said if we play shit and lose then there will be justifiable criticism. This is the best league in the world and every team has at worst good players with most having at least 3 very very good ones
Popular Post Jas10
Really enjoyed this interview, part 2 uploaded now. Honestly, I can’t understand how any Villa fan could not admire and respect our manager… he’s perfect for this club. He’s a genuinely progressive and attacking coach and bleeds claret and blue… a thoroughly decent human being too… Has brought the good times back to this club (madness to ignore or overlook that), has done so much good work and given us a positive identity and philosophy… and I hope he is here for the long term… He’s well and truly restored the pride… Podcast links: https://play.acast.com/s/thebiginterviewwithgrahamhunter Part 1 DEAN SMITH: HOW TO BUILD A £100M PLAYER Part 2 DEAN SMITH: VILLA 7 LIVERPOOL 2 AND OTHER EXTRAORDINARY STORIES

Popular Post CVByrne
Smith is doing an excellent job. It's not even 3 years ago since he joined when we were 15th in the Championship and was an injury to Jack away from a 60 point haul and top 10 finish last season. If you look at the side we got promoted with, and subtract any spend we made to sign those players or their replacements. So Mings, El Ghazi, Hause then consider Konsa and Wesley as signings to replace Tammy and Axel. That's ~65m "spend" just to get/replace 4 players we had in our Championship team. So "new" additions was what 65m worth Luiz, Heaton, Targett, Nakamba, Trezeguet, Engles, Jota When you factor the loss of Tammy for Wesley and then his injury and signing of Sammatta and then losing Heaton and getting Reina in. McGinn broke his leg. Staying up was a huge task and we managed to do it and the team and Smith learned hugely from that. We then spend 75m on Watkins, Martinez, Cash and Traore. With another 14m on Sanson to come that January who has yet to make his mark. The Jack injury cost us that top 10 spot we all know it. Then this season we've sold Jack and signed some new players. So in total we've spent ~ 150m net on additional players to the team that we had in the Championship. With Sanson, Bailey, Buendia all yet to really make their mark.

The connection the fans have with the team now is something that is absolutely priceless. He’s evolving the club all the time, bringing in these different coaches to enhance previous areas of weakness. We have chopped and changed managers constantly and it never works. Finally we have a period of stability at the club and clear progress is clear for everyone to see. This is the first time he can attack the Prem with a squad full of quality options. Now they’re all fit, performances like that first half at Chelsea could easily become the norm. Win tomorrow with a good performance and all of a sudden we go to Old Trafford full of optimism and perhaps some expectation..

We brought in 5 new players that could be considered 1st team, one of which played for us as a CB a couple of years ago and played alongside Mings at the back and Smith has been our manager for the last 3 years. Why would u think Everton have more synergy and it is wrong to think that half our team never played together and have barely trained together. If anything we should be hitting the ground running quicker than Everton.

However, I do see a situation where a horses for courses, scenario will be adopted for various games, depending on the strengths of the opposition. also, I do think spending c£30 mill on a player and not playing him, will need some explaining at our level.
