I think it comes down to a) some of us wanting three changes minimum giving Hanoi is wanting Nakamba to start aswell and others happy with us just making one change every 3 games as has been the trend recently. DS could just do that on Saturday, bring back Traore and just tell Barkley and SJM to go out and play better.

General other point is to make subs quicker in second half. Would be interesting how often we make subs before 65th-70th minute compared to other teams although I don't have a huge issue tonight given we did a rare half time sub and conceding two sloppy goals negated that a bit so sometimes it's out of your control with what the players at the back though.

Hopefully in 2-3 years when we do have much more quality beyond the first 11 we will see DS doing this.

We keep talking about "quality" but I am not sure West Ham have better quality than us.

Tonight, they showed strength and power, sacrificed a winger for 2 full backs to double up on jack.....and denied us the ball.....they had players who could deny us the ball, beat us in duels and win most if the headers in midfield....they done a number on us, why?.....because they could.

when we had the ball, they stiffled us to release it, in contrast, they had the ball and we stood off on the whole.

They won the initiative, we went to pot and made them look good....they had players who could do what Burnley did......we have to learn, when we go in to the summer market......we are a bit like Arsenal, we seem to think talent alone, is the answer, when its only a part of the answer as West Ham showed tonight.

They have quality all over the park and in reserve. They brought on Fornals and had Bowen and Yarmolenko waiting on the bench.

And in games like this, and against Burnley  The ' talent' cant play because they have no  guardian/warrior/protection/destroyer to free them up and unsettle the other team.

Its also why we usually perform better against teams like Arsenal.

Either Sanson or Marv or even both should come in against Arsenal. That midfield needs freshening up. Would not be averse to Trez starting against Arsenal either, he'd probably be fresher than Bert.

Tbh Trez should have walked straight back into the team. We were undefeated at the start of the season when he was in and he was on fire.

I think you are being a bit harsh. There are many areas that need improvement in the squad but it can’t be done in 2 summers. When we got promoted 2 of the team today were in the squad. Every other player has had to be signed and it’s pretty much used every penny the club could make available.

We’re still a massive work in progress and I think sometimes fans forget that. West Ham have been working on it for years so it’s not a fair comparison.

West Ham just escaped relegation, like us.....West ham have had their difficulties with management too.....poor signings etc.

yes you are right, its early days, but we have to learn.

The things we are missing are not expensive, but Dean has to be cute and add strength and power to talent like Jack......we have to improve the balance of the squad, we have too many players who like playing with no one in close contact....we have to find some who can mix it....and relish games like tonights not switch off.

So do we.....we just couldn't get ours to apply it, they did.

Issa Diop would be a good pick up. Was rated as a very nice CB not so long ago but had a poor game v Newcastle in first game and barely played since. Mid 20s so interested what they'd want for him as think he was signed for similar fee to Mings.

Big one is Soucek isn't it? A few were calling for that type over the summer although seems only player to fit that criteria was Philip Billing for some reason...anyway Soucek adds real drive, goals from the air and ground and isn't bad technically so that type would add another dimension to our midfield although no space until we can move Nakamba and Hourihane out full time.

But to get a payer like that, you have to look for one like that.

McTominay......would they sell him?

Precisely.

some of us knew that game would play out like that, before the game started.

we did better against the 2 manchester clubs and its predictable.

He still starts regularly for Man. United so long way from Lingard availability.

Matic would be more likely but wrong age for what we go for now and he still gets starts here and there for them.

Would love him.

Not going to happen now. Mourinho brought him in from the cold and now he's a key man for Utd.

That is the kind of player we need in our midfield....someone with presence and guile.

West Ham won nothing tonight. They were average and we forced the win upon them.

I have little interest in taking anything from their game.

I think people purring about how good West Ham were, are trying to downplay how terrible we were.

They are decent, solid, defend well, but nowhere near as good as what we handed over to them tonight.

We couldn't control a ball, or pass to our own team mates. Our best passes were to West Ham players.

" West Ham were the better team " - Indeed, and they didn't have much to be better than.

Now we are talking.....and touching on why we lose games like tonight....and will continue to.

Absolutely.

They were OK. Setup exactly as everyone knew they would. Perhaps they were even more defensive than we expected with two right backs.

They weren't "good". They weren't as good as Southampton were when they battered us last week. They weren't as good as we were first half at Burnley or as good as Burnley were in the second half.

We were abysmal, gave them plenty of easy chances and when they shot, Emi came up well short of his performances this season.

I think we should try this maybe sooner than later.  (4-2-1-2-1)

               Watkins

     Grealish        Traore

                Sanson

           Luiz      McGinn

Targett Mings Konsa Cash

               Martinez

Keep Barkley as the primary substitute and maybe feature Nakamba more regularly. Trez and AEG solid options off the bench. A narrower set up but our fullbacks can both bomb up the flanks as needed.

No Tom, They forced the win on us....we surrendered.

If you fail to take anything from their game, you will possibly miss what our weaknesses are.

Even teams like Man city - Ruben Dias.....Liverpool - Van Dyck have players who despite their quality, know how to stop opposing players.

We have to have more players in our squad with a natural instinct for stopping the opposition.
