People in the media were praising wilder and now biesla but what about smith?? The guys done a terrific job. This season he has made the seemingly impossible happen Reputation isn't build in a year. Smith has been a lower league coach for most of his career. If he keeps getting results his reputation will naturally rise.

If we had taken our chances against Leeds and not made preventable errors against Southampton. As you say incredible progress from last season. I hope we can add a player or two come January. You are right there. Still think we were rubbish against Leeds, but Southampton’s xG showed they were crazy lucky. All set pieces, which we should be able to deal with. I reckon we’ll do better against the good sides this season. The ones that don't sit back, and that allow us to counter. Wouldn’t surprise me if we have a season of incredible results, followed by some real head scratchers.

That’s where we’re a WIP. It was always going to take time to transition a Championship squad to a Premier squad. Just hope fans don’t overreact when that inevitably happens, cos I think we’re on the way to building something quite special here. Absolutely agree with this. If it doesn't happen then that would be unexpected. Our form may continue all season, but we absolutely should not be expecting it to. Going to be fun finding out though, even if our off days become more common towards the end of the season. Our on days are something worth waiting for. Loving what Smith and the rest of the management team have achieved these last 2 years, the results now really do speak for themselves. A combined 10-2 scoreline against the League and FA Cup winners from last year is amazing.

The people who actually properly analyzed that Southampton game would say it was a freak and that Southampton had an abnormal effectivity. I said it was a good game from us one week ago and i still say the same now.

For what Smith had to work with he surely made a miracle happen last season keeping us up. This season is really good, I think Smith and other english managers alike are paving the way for an english football comeback, unless your name is Gareth Southgate ..

bannedfromHandV
May have been said already but I think we’ve been the first game on MOTD/MOTD2 for 4 of the last 5 weeks, the only game we weren’t on first was Leeds and that was a Friday night game. Its not dull any more is it?

JAMAICAN-VILLAN
3 points off top with a game in hand is mental. Imagine if we can keep up with a 1.7 - 2 points per match average for the whole season? Very early days of course, and I'm worried about injuries and suspensions. However, at least this season, our " worst " team, will be stronger than last season's. Plus on this trajectory we should already have secured enough points to keep us well clear of danger early. By the time fans are allowed back in they should be well gelled and settled, and hopefully thrive.

And if he finishes top half this season i will promise you he will get the credit. Sheffield United have 1 point from 8 games. I doubt very much that you would find that an acceptable return if Dean Smith had got the same. Even if we had won the league last season. We are currently sitting 6th having played 7 games. If we won our game in hand we’d be top and yet you and other posters constantly find any excuse to pick holes in Dean Smith’s management. The other manager you appear to view through the rosiest of glasses, has his team sitting in 15th. Despite recently beating us they have 5 less points from a game more and with a goal difference of 12 worse than ours. Dean Smith is part of a team of people both on and off the pitch, in a variety of roles, who have overseen a remarkable turn around in the fortunes of our football club. About two and a half years ago the club was on the brink of going out of existence having become a total basket case of a club in recent years. The people involved didn’t have the luxury of being able to quietly and slowly improve things away from the spotlight. They’ve done this under the glare of huge publicity that comes with such a massive and historic English football club. Inevitably the position of manager is under more scrutiny than most and so in my mind deserves more praise than most. Dean Smith, under extremely difficult circumstances and in the white hot heat of a media that often want us to fail, has always stood tall, faced the pressure and come through successfully. He’s extremely proud to be manager of Aston Villa the team he supports. We should be equally proud and supportive of him. Thanks Dean.
onmeedson
That was wonderful to watch last night, all credit to dean and the boys they got a grip of the game and never let up. The work rate from the middle three made the difference and gave Watkins the service in the area to do the damage.
