LakotaDakota
Seems to be a bunch of fires, explosions & buildings blowing up due to some sort of fault with the gas supply in Massachusetts. https://edition.cnn.com/2018/09/13/us/massachusetts-explosions-fires/index.html

maqroll
Shockingly only one death AFAIK. Some poor kid who just got his drivers license had a chimney from an exploding house fall on his car.
maqroll
Meanwhile on Cape Cod, a Great White shark finally killed someone today, first one in 80 years.
maqroll
A couple of other noteworthy Mass. stories- Mayor Joe Curtatone of Somerville, first generation Italian-American, just officially announced that his city (historically populated with Italians) will no longer recognize Columbus Day, but instead Indigenous People's Day. Massive gesture. I am really proud of the mayor. I'm Italian-American from that area and I know how much shit is raining down on him right now. Also, the former mayor of Somerville and current fairly progressive US Congressman for that district Mike Capuano, just got ousted in the Dem primary by an African-American woman, Allyana Pressley, who some consider more centrist. Capuano had the support of the Congressional Black Caucus, too. Huge upset in Mass. politics.

I suppose they will go out and try and catch and kill the shark now?

When I teach US history, I always make debunking the Columbus myth my first order of business. Edited September 16, 2018 by Michelsen
Xann
The gas company sent too much pressure down the line. Whatever the cause? I'd want to know that wasn't achievable by a hostile remote log in.
