Popular Post sidcow Posted October 24, 2022 VT Supporter Popular Post Share Posted October 24, 2022 (edited) I hear he is close to resigning because he wanted to appoint big Sam but he owners went over his head. Literally, they had to stick his head down the loo constantly flushing it telling him THEY were appointing Emery and he's got to put up with it. I reiterate, he wanted Big Sam and didn't want Emery. He's such an idiot. I am 100% sure about this too. This is absolutely definitely what happened. Edited October 24, 2022 by sidcow 3 3

Popular Post sidcow Posted October 24, 2022 VT Supporter Popular Post Share Posted October 24, 2022 For all those spouting bollocks about Gerrard was never going to be sacked, there was no plan etc. Emery hasn't happened in 4 days. No way did we call him out of the blue on Friday morning and start discussions. This will have been going on for a while. He'll have been lined up sometime ago. 15

We've approached people that will never sign for us in a million years. The writing has been on the wall since day 1 of the season. Purslow has **** it. And Monday at 2004 we've appointed Unai Emery. I read somewhere that they knew Gerrard was wrong at the end of last season and allowed him a pre-season, just to see if he could turn it around - might explain why there wasn’t blow out investment in the summer?

Adam2003
So after all the bedwetting his record as a CEO with managers is: Smith (got us promoted, kept us up, got us to Wembley); Gerrard (was bad); Emery (great track record, people seem really excited). Maybe worth not throwing the baby out with the bathwater just yet… Edited October 24, 2022 by Adam2003
maqroll
Purslow looks like an absolute Muppet now. Just the mere thought if Emery puts the Gerrard signing into brutal perspective, and it's all on Purslow. 1

Popular Post TheAuthority Posted October 25, 2022 VT Supporter Popular Post Share Posted October 25, 2022 It's interesting reading back over the last week of this thread. I get people were upset about the state of things on the pitchaot I am not going to use the phrase "bed-wetting," but opinions look a little extreme in hindsight. Purslow has been the CEO of Aston Villa during a time which has seen us appoint Dean Smith who completely changed the culture of the playing squad, got us promoted, reached a Cup final and kept us up in the the PL in our 1st year (essentially unheard of for a team that finish 6th in the Championship.) Our 2nd season in the PL was spectacular until the injury to Jack Grealish and arguably we could have been competing for a European spot had he stayed fit. Then he left. After 11 games of the next season Smith was sacked (too soon IMO) and Purslow oversaw the appointment of a young and up and coming manager with a big reputation. Was this nepotistic? Vanity? Stupid? Depending on your chosen view of Purslow you can argue every which way. It has been confirmed that he was talking to the fans before the game this past Saturday after Gerrard was sacked. This notion of him being a Gerrard "fanboi" of whatever are somewhat silly IMO. Perhaps he admired him, respected him and or wanted to be liked by him. Fame and talent does funny things to those around them. You can always go with hindsight and say Sanson wasn't worth this and Coutinho wasn't worth that. Well, we also got Kamara for free and sold Grealish for 100 million pounds. Business is business and honestly, I think some don't like him because he has a public school accent and looks like a school prefect. I can understand that. Ultimately, has Christian Purslow been a net positive for my club, Aston Villa? Then so far unquestionably the answer is yes. Today he had a hand (none of us have any idea how much) in hiring an extremely successful manager for our club. Arguably the most successful manager we've ever hired. Every managerial hire is a gamble and no-one can say if this one will work out. Overall, from the tangibles I've seen form the outside and ignoring all rumor and hearsay, Purslow deserves his seat running AVFC for now. 18
