Popular Post rodders0223
Came on against a beaten and down trodden team and made 9 passes in half hour with a 55% accuracy. About sums him up and why he shouldn't play again. You've never seen a midfielder struggle so much to get into positions to receive the ball.
sharkyvilla
I'm glad he got the SJM chant when he came on and Young made the gesture of giving him the armband. Even if his immediate future is on the bench I still wouldn't write him completely off. Just a bit of time out the team and a manager that can structure a midfield so he doesn't have to cover the full back would do him the world of good. Think he should only be played further-up the field - cameos only please But even there I'd still have him behind all those who started today, as well as Ramsey and even Coutinho
Tom13
Not a fan of him (as a player) but 55% completion doesn't seem right. Maybe it is though
ferguson1
Not gonna bad mouth him because he’s given us so much but it’s the beginning of the end for him I feel.
Wezbid
Would rather have seen Sanson get some 1st team minutes in his legs. I don't want to rag on John but things slowed down and passes went astray again. The feel-good vibes from the game probably stopped the grumbles but if he were brought on at 0-0 and the same performance was there then it would be a bit more brutal. Zatman
Sounds terrible but it seemed his appearance today and taking the armband felt like some sort of testimonial appearance
sne
No point being too harsh but I'd look to sell in January if possible. His value is as high as it's going to be going forward.
ozvillafan Posted October 24, 2022 VT Supporter Share Posted October 24, 2022 I'm not sure what role he was being asked to play when he came on. He was a swap for Dendonker (IIRC) - but the double pivot is not a role McGinn knows how to play. He looked a little lost.
VillaParkAvenue
His confidence must be lower than ever after this year and he could surely use some time away from the pitch. Maybe he can return improved and hungry for revenge, maybe not. In any case there's no point for anyone to kick him while he's down.
Wainy316
Think it was good management bringing the dropped players on once the game was comfortable.
chrisvilla4
I sung along in support but also groaned. Not sure what's going on for him here at the moment. Take the armband off him, and the pressure then give him a break.
AVFCforever1991
Appreciate everything he's done here, but if he can't adapt then he hasn't got a starting place, good squad player though
Delphinho123
I honestly think it would be a good time to move on from McGinn either in Jan or the Summer. He'd fetch a good price and he himself probably needs a fresh start. I keep trying to convince myself he's good enough, and at times he's been our best midfielder but over the last 12 months, I've come to the conclusion we have to improve on him. StanBalaban
I think the days of playing him in the hope he can be some kind of QB from deep should be well and truly over. He could still be useful in a more advanced role, a la Scotland.

Yeah I agree, especially if we are playing 4 2 3 1 often. We've Tim and Aaron coming back from good spells in Championship to add to the squad. We've Kamara, Dendoncker, JJ & Luiz. Sanson, Naka and McGinn might be best moving on

We'd probably be looking to add one more in there as well in either window so we need to make room. We definitely need to sign a winger or two in the next couple of window as well.
