It was a nice try from McGinn to go and purposely snap his ankle to get a bit of a rest but apparently Dean Smith has been trying to find a Doctor who will give McGinn the OK to play on with injections. briny_ear
This is potentially a **** disaster. I know he has taken a lot of flak on here recently but he really is so important to our midfield, even when he is playing below his best. He brings so much drive and energy and I don’t see who will replace that.
It's Your Round
We probably need a new midfielder to add to the striker and winger now.

Although a new striker and winger would give us more options to deal with McGinn's absence (e.g. bring Grealish central, or play 4-4-2).
newhavenhibby Posted December 23, 2019 Visiting Supporter Share Posted December 23, 2019 (edited) Sad news for everyone associated with Aston Villa. however , you never know, it may be a blessing in disguise. Smith will now have to change his midfield and hopefully bring in at least one player in January ( possibly 2) to play as a forward thinking player. If this works out ,when McGinn is fit again, he can slot back into the deeper position which is more suited to his game. Lets hope that the break is not too bad and he bounces back quickly. Keep the faith. Won't be on again for a while so wish all Villa fans, especially those on this forum, a merry xmas and a Pointiful New Year. Sulberto21
Fergie always was able to identify when a player needed a rest and when a player needed taking out of the firing line. McGinn shouldn’t have been playing for the week or two weeks prior.
sidcow Posted December 28, 2019 VT Supporter Share Posted December 28, 2019 How important is this guy to us? We thought he was playing badly but we have fallen off a cliff face without him. He is 4 times the player of any of our other midfield signings.

I hope he comes back fully fit as there’s a tendency to rush the more important players back quicker.
