Tegis Posted July 7, 2019 VT Supporter Share Posted July 7, 2019 Rough sport, people. Rough sport. Shame Santos knee went south so early. He could have taken that. Touch split. Rematch please
villakram
Bloody epic weekend. Cracking card and some distant earthquake fun. Saw an awful lot online claiming Santos took that fight, but in the arena Jones was the clear points winner, with an audible mini-holy shit moment from the crowd when the first score was read out... ahh, teasing bastards. The amount of booing of Jones was great though, both at the end and the weigh-in. Such a pity Santos knee went as Jones was clearly hurt and he simply couldn't press at all in the final round. The Rockhold fight was hilarious, the amount of people roaring at him to get his bloody hands up and then he gets so predictably smashed. Not sure what happened with Holm as she was so gun-shy and it really just seemed that we had to wait for Nunes to connect. And, that Askren KO... wow. Right up there with the Aldo KO as one of those true moments that only live sport can provide. Lot's of solid in the prelims too, with only a complete shit-show with Markos putting a downer on things.
Tegis Posted July 9, 2019 VT Supporter Share Posted July 9, 2019 Santos tore his ACL, MCL, PCL and meniscus in the first round. How in all its holy did he make it through that, and beating up Jones pretty good in the process????? Animal!

A tough watch, but she/her-team made the poor decisions that led to such a rough cut.

Tomorrow she'll be in the ring and 135 will be a distant memory. Obviously there's culpability for the coaching team in there but the authorities have to realise that having fighters go through mass dehydration and so on to make weight i the day before a fight is not good. They do. That's why weigh-ins were moved to the am hours with the afternoon stuff now only for show. But, this simply gives fighters a greater amount of time to recover so that they are less compromised when they enter the ring. I preferred the old way. You messed up your cut and you paid big time in the ring. The missed weight percentage appears to have increased too, as it seems that fighters are now being more aggressive with the cut given the larger recovery window. It's tricky as if they were to really restrict weight cutting, e.g., weekly official weigh-ins in 6 weeks before fight and a 3-4% variance allowance, then they'd have to increase the number of weight classes... then we start to move towards boxing nonsense. Also, MMA just doesn't have the bodies at the moment to support additional weight classes without diluting the product. errr... and finally, we're a damn smart bunch of monkeys and rules will always be pushed as far as possible, and extra mass generally means extra damage. Tegis Posted July 14, 2019 VT Supporter Share Posted July 14, 2019 So, ignore the early stoppage, but Ladd absorbed 1 punch 15 seconds in, after that cut, and folded like a deck-chair. She needs to get that diet under control, shes not that big.

Yup... very, very easy to call Herb out on this one, but head trauma in a de-hydrated state is very very dangerous, so can't really disagree with Herb looking out for the fighter.
BOF Posted August 15, 2019 Moderator Share Posted August 15, 2019 Conor McGregor Punches Old Man in Head Over Whiskey Shots Video in the link. It's TMZ so you know it's going to be sensationalised nonsense. Still it's Conor being Conor. The Marble Arch is a rough shithole slap bang in the middle of Conor's stronghold. Quote Conor McGregor Punches Old Man in Head Over Whiskey Shots ... Conor McGregor uncorked a shot to the head of an elderly man in an Irish bar in a dispute over whiskey -- Conor's whiskey -- and TMZ Sports got this video showing the violence. The absurd attack went down at The Marble Arch Pub in Dublin on April 6. Conor walked in and lined up cups for bar patrons ... looking to buy a round of his Proper Twelve for everyone. The problems started when the guy opted out. Conor placed a cup in front of him not once, but twice ... and he still refused. Unclear if words were exchanged between them, but after Conor downed a shot with the other drinkers, he unexpectedly threw his notorious left fist and decked the old man who rejected the shot. Two people immediately grabbed McGregor and pulled him out of the bar. The violence was reported to cops, who announced back in April they'd opened an investigation. It's unclear if that's still active, but there are no reports Conor was ever charged -- even though cops have reportedly seen this video. Perhaps most odd of all ... the poor, old pub patron who got socked didn't even get knocked off his stool. People are just tougher in Ireland, apparently. The video is just the latest evidence of McGregor losing his cool outside the Octagon. He dodged felony charges in New York last year when he smashed a bus window with a dolly, injuring several UFC fighters onboard the vehicle. Tegis Posted August 18, 2019 VT Supporter Share Posted August 18, 2019 (edited) Dammit, I can't find the lead-up to this. Stipe threw about 10 (edit: 17) haaaard bodyshots before that in round 4. Swung the match 180. It was beautiful, and then the icing TKO Edited August 18, 2019 by Tegis
Nigel Posted August 18, 2019 VT Supporter Share Posted August 18, 2019 Glad that happened, it never sat right with me how stipe was completely ignored after the last fight, despite his record. The best fighter should be top, no matter the potential monetary value.

Now what could he do against Jon Jones at HW?
