mottaloo
Since my captain Morgan spiced rum debut, I've got 3 further bottles...two dead man's finger.....spiced rum and lime rum (sounds nasty but I love citrus) and a bottle of burning barn as previously mentioned - more smoky than spicy but nice all the same

Never had a pint which I didn't regret buying. Now I just swerve them. Its definitely more miss than hit for me. There are some I like and I do like the Brewdog bar in Brum, but they brew some bilge. HanoiVillan
On 26/12/2021 at 09:57, HanoiVillan said: Got a bunch of beers from one brewery. First: Str8 Flexin' Imperial Stout from Twin Sails in Port Moody. It was actually not the one in the picture here but a different version in a smaller black can, the difference being that the one I had was aged in bourbon barrels. Weighing in at a solid 11.3% it's a slow sipper for me, but this one was absolutely delicious. Just notes of bourbon and vanilla all over the place. A fine dark stout indeed. I have a couple more that are variations on the theme which I'll hopefully be reviewing over the next few days. Obviously catching covid didn't particularly help my efforts to try a wide variety of new beers, but I had done a couple more from this brewery before the diagnosis: The first was 'Flex Mex': Per the description, 'We started with our Barrel Aged Str8 Flexin', then took select barrels and conditioned them on our Aztec inspired spice blend of Ancho Chili, Cinnamon, Cocoa and Vanilla.' This was one that I started out absolutely loving, having the flavour of a kind of cinnamon-spiced dark chocolate, but to be honest even a small can grew a bit wearisome and the flavour did less for me by the end. The nice thing in North America is going to breweries and them doing 'flights' of little tasting glasses, and I would recommend this in small portions like those. The second: Per the description, a bourbon-barrel aged stout with peppermint. I loved it! The cool mintyness does a good job taking the edge of the strength of the stout - this one weighs in at 13.9% - and gives a lovely rounded flavour. I got another one that of course I haven't been able to drink. It did take me the thick end of 4 hours to drink the can though. Third: A standard citra pale ale really, cloudy and fruity. It was perfectly pleasant, a nice dinner accompaniment. But kind of expensive when you have to buy them in a 4-pack (unlike the stouts) and they're not anything greatly dissimilar from beers you can get for 60% of the price in the UK.

And that wasn't so good for the money and I was too embarrassed to add coke... the best all round sold everywhere rum for me is kraken which is vanilla flavoured... But not that heavily, its a really good all round rum that's too easy to drink Then there are a lot of decent >£20 rums in supermarkets like Mount gay, Appleton, duppy share, if you can find them chairman's reserve and brugal* all of them then seem to do a special edition for around £30 which do actually step up a level and are worth it, I don't like pussers dark but they do a really good spiced which usually does something every year at the rum awards The harder thing is then stepping up in to the £40+ range with the Don Somethings and diplimaticos etc they're harder to pin down what will be good and what wont be worth the money I'd say the one that got away from me is aussie rum Bundaberg, had a couple of glasses in bars but nothing more, they're meant to be very good too * for all the ones I drank I'd say brugal are maybe one of the most interesting, their basic spiced rum is different from everyone else, got almost like a hint of coffee or something in there, will make it an acquired taste but I like it a lot
Ingram85
@villa4europe Have you ever had Plantation (with the string tied around the bottle) and if so is it any good? It’s always been recommended to me but I’ve never been brave enough to spend £30+ on it as never sampled it before.
villa4europe
No mate but I saw that their pineapple rum made a rum of the year list that I read, not convinced by that though, that'll be a bit specialist for me maybe a specific cocktail drink

You can pick out any local beer and it'll range from solid to spectacular. Coloardo also has the most micro - breweries per capita in North America We'll have stouts from Weldworks for sure, not sure about the rest. Killshot to be posted here at the end of the night.

Colorado had flown under the radar to some degree as a fashionable place to live. California was always the place folks aspired to or of course New York. This allowed people to come to CO and buy, say an acre of land for pretty cheap, and start brewing! We always had Aspen and Vail which are the swanky, 3rd home type places but those are mountain towns. The front range cities of Colorado Springs, Denver, Ft Collins & Greeley were quite affordable compared to other places I've already mentioned. And some of the old unfashionable mountain towns away from the ski-resorts were cheap too. That has been changing though and it's changing really fast - Especially since the pandemic and the fact that California is on fire. On the radio yesterday it said there are 4,000 real estate agents in Colorado Springs and 29 houses under 1/2 million. 30,000 people per day are moving to Colorado and there just isn't anywhere near enough housing. Sorry for going OT!
