Namely the sponsor and the club's predicament at that time. Selling well in 2010 for example, but not in 2011 could easily be attributed to a certain manager who's terrified of direct sunlight, or moving to a gambling sponsor.

I'm pretty sure it'll be Recon of some kind on our shirts next season...... R.E. the training ground renaming, I'm sure that'll be a win win for the Dr. and the Villa

JAMAICAN-VILLAN
Got a notification from the Villa app saying the kit design will feature a nod to William McGregor? So, that's one for the conceptual artists on here I guess.

Villarocker
Will Sir Willy Mac's beard be the replacement for that dodgy looking Luke1977 symbol that is supposedly a Dog/Lion/Dragon thingy? To be fair, it would be hard to tell the difference!

There are a few other factors at play too though. Firstly, as @BOF has said, team performance can have a big role and sponsor may do but unless it's a disaster it doesn't make much difference. Typically, home shirt sales are consistent regardless of the design, team performance (unless it's a big uptick - finishing 8th or 15th makes no difference), manufacturer. It can vary a bit, but normally the main factor for a home shirt is Year 1. First season with a new manufacturer is usually the best for sales. One of the reasons a lot of the bigger clubs have three kits (aside from clashing/different tournaments/insert excuse here) is to pick off three different fan types. Most fans who are going to buy a shirt will buy a home shirt. Most fans who buy a home shirt will always buy it. Away shirts tend to be a true "change" kit, and generally something like black or white will successful. It can be worn with anything, so is a bit more "lifestyle" than a home kit - particularly for a club like Villa where the home colours are obviously a football kit. The third kit tends to be more adventurous. Home and away have boxed off most of the sales, so the third will either i) be an extra purchase for someone who has one or both of the others, or ii) appeal to a younger fan who wants something a bit more experimental. The best club I ever worked with for this formula was Bordeaux. The home kit always had the "scapulaire" design, but they were open to playing with it each season so it was noticeably different - fans weren't being sold the same shirt every year. The away kit had to be somewhat sophisticated, and often "look good with jeans". The third kit was a place to have fun. If the away was white and sophisticated we'd go nuts with the third. If the away was, say, military green, it'd still be deemed sophisticated but more risky, so we'd tone down the third kit a bit. It was great fun as a designer, great for sales, and great for the fans because there was a real reason to buy each year beyond last season's being out of date. Apologies for another dissertation here. I'm passionate about this topic! TL;DR - Yes, @villa4europe is right. 5

Ingram85
The 2010 day glo orange Marseille shirt with the black/silver/blue horizontal stripes is one of my all time favourite shirts as is the maroon/pink 2010 Lyonnaise away shirt. Funnily enough both Adidas but back when adidas dared to be a bit different.
villan-scott Posted April 26, 2018 VT Supporter Share Posted April 26, 2018 I’ve just realised Fanatics do some of our stuff already. I’m 28 years old and I have Aston Villa pyjamas that are from the official store and made by Fanatics. They’re good quality and comfortable fwiw.

I mean the chavvy looking models on the website terrify me but that logo I genuinely think is one of the naffest things I have ever seen. God I hope this all works out. rbcuk
Don’t think I’ll be buying next seasons kit, as don’t like his clobber he designs. With that logo of his on a football shirt it will look awful in my opinion Instead I’ve brought the 91-93 third shirt as had it as a kid when it 1st come out, £50 brand new which will still probably be cheaper than what he comes out with
