I had to Mooney him too. Sad loss to the music world, going by my Facebook.

Similar mooneying over here. According to twitter he was "the voice or an entire generation's youth" and "one of the greatest frontmen of all time". I think I know one of his songs (Black Hole Sun?) but other than that he was nowhere near being on my radar.

It's quite moving reading some of the comments in the press and online about his death.

Heartening to read he was so well thought of and respected for his amazing lyrical and vocal abilities, as well as being a decent human being.

He's definitely going to leave a big hole in the musical landscape that's for damned sure.

He had it all mate. This guy had tonnes of respect in the music world and by all accounts he was just a great person. There are not many people in music that just have this cool vibe about them without even trying to be cool but he was one of them. massive loss and I'm still trying to get my head around it, but life goes on and we are left with a lot of great music from him.

He did leave us with that shocking collaboration with timberland but I can forgive him for that due to everything else he gave us.

Never forget the first time I heard "say hello to heaven" by temple of the dog what a track that was.

I think you would like some of his stuff.

Just listened to 'Cochise' over on the songs thread. Didn't like it.

I had to Mooney him.  "Oh him".  Little did I realise every single facebook friend of mine turned out to be die hard Soundgarden fans.  Who knew?

one of the problems today is how accessible music is today, anyone can just hear the name of a musician who has died and has instantly got their back catalogue, I remember saving money to buy my soundgarden albums and how excited I was to get home and listen to them, all these little facebook scrotes will just jump on Tidal or spotify and listen to a few songs whilst educating themselves on the bands entire history via wikipedia and then they can declare themselves a superfan.

Never cared for soundgarden personally nor audioslave despite listening to some of the albums but when the news broke this morning on the radio I still thought WTF

Slaves and bulldozers was the last song they performed which included halfway through a rendition of ' in my time of dying' by led Zeppelin. Not sure how common it was to include that in the song or how common it was to perform that song last, but it's kind of eerie. Obviously it's all speculation at the moment, but suicide is being investigated.

I had Badmotorfinger on vinyl as an xmas present off my grandad back in the early 90s.

I remember when I was at some club in Birmingham, may have been the Sanctuary and that prick Zane Lowe was DJ for the night, it was one of the worst nights out I've ever had, I never thought that anyone could choose a set list as bad as he had, the final 2 songs was black dog by Zeppelin followed by Cochise...them final 2 songs almost made up for the other 6 hours I had spent there

His wife has stated he showed no signs of depression or that anything was wrong until a phone call after his last gig. She spoke to him before the gig and everything seemed normal, but a phone conversation from his hotel room after the gig gave her some concerns something wasn't right. I didn't know that he had been battling most of his life with an alcohol and prescription drug addiction. He had been properly clean and happy for a few years. Close sources are worried he might of been struggling again. Either way however you look at suicide it's tragic.

Just had a text message from a mate I haven't seen for a while ''just heard about Chris Cornell bad times thats shit. his cover of billie jean was perfect''

My mate is a dubstep, garage, Michael Jackson freak, not his type of music at all...although I reckon that I basically reprogrammed him to like the Billie Jean cover, I **** arsed that song when it first came out

Yeah Cornell's solo album that was like R&B was utter cack, he was much better at rock.

Still, suicide? I suppose stuff will start to come out over the next few weeks but he didn't appear to be a depressive.

Soundgarden was a bit before my time before i grew up properly but I remember Euphoria Morning was my first introduction, it was **** excellent and his last solo album was pretty great too, 'Nearly forgot my broken heart' was a great single with a great video with Eric Roberts. That first audioslave album though, sublime. Cochise was a gteat 'here we are' type single but the whole album was great. Listening to 'Like a stone' earlier, got me right in the feels.

Mike, you might prefer tracks like 'like a stone', 'nearly forgot my broken heart', can't change me' & the casino royale song.

Wasn't a massive Audioslave fan but the first album has many memories of uni, especially first year when it was played an awful lot by a couple of mates when we were stoned and another time while tripping on mushrooms.
