Popular Post Andy81 Posted October 3, 2017 Visiting Supporter Popular Post Share Posted October 3, 2017 Evening All, I'm the Wolves fan who posted a link to this thread, so as requested I'll give my thoughts. First of all, I should say I've been reading VillaTalk on and off for years now, always seems to give a balanced and fair set of views in general. Secondly, with regards to Villa as a club, like most Wolves fans I've always had a strong respect for Villa, and when we're not in the same league I've always been happy to see you do well. Clearly this season we're rivals, but I'd expect most of us would be happy to see the two clubs finish in the top two this season. Villa are clearly the biggest club in the Midlands and to my mind have under achieved for decades. You'll know better than me why this is, but really, Villa shouldn't be dropping out of the top eight in the Premier League really. I was at the game at Villa Park in the Premier League when Wolves won 1-0. It was the first time in my lifetime that Wolves had beat Villa and it meant a lot, not due to any dislike of Villa, more of a milestone that we had reached at the time to be able to compete with Villa. Having said that, the Championship is full of good sized clubs that would feel at home in the Premier League, this is part of what makes the Championship so exciting to my mind. I don't know what the thoughts of Villa fans are on this, but from my point of view the transfer stratergy Villa have employed since relegation has been questionable. It seems to me like you've made somewhat of a slapdash aproach spending so much money hoping some of it will work out. It seems like that might actually be working now, though, from what I have seen, if I was a Villa fan I'd worry about how dependent you are on Kodja being fit, although Snodgrass seems to have been an important signing too, and your goalkeeper looks like quality. While you have had some impressive away wins recently against Barnsley and Burton, you seem to ben just sneaking over the line at home, the wins against Bolton and Forest weren't convincing, I watched the Forest game, and it was a cracking free kick to win the match but I did think you were a little lucky to win that one. Playing badly and winning is the sign of a good team however, so maybe you have that at the moment. It's a great habit to pick up! With regards to our game, I must admit to feeling bullish about it, but I think it really could go either way. I think I'd be more confident if the game was at Villa park. As you've said, I think the smart thing to do for Villa is to sit deep, try to press our centre midfield and wing backs, then look to play on the break and for set pieces. Going the other way, we have a very talented front three for this league, and dangerous wing backs. How you handle this will be key. Wolves are vunerable to set pieces, but we don't conceed too many goals from open play. Wolves v Villa always feels like a big game to me, can't wait to see the two kits under the floodlights. All the best, 23

One thing I do worry about though is their team will have the legs on us, being a much younger team. It'll be an intriguing game nonetheless. Would take a point now but if we can win then we really are turning it around. I play 5 a side with a dozen or so guys, just a kick about and we mix up the teams on a weekly basis. Occasionally we play youngsters vs experienced old heads. The old heads always win. On that basis. Wolves 0 - 5 Villa.
Popular Post Wolf man Posted October 4, 2017 Visiting Supporter Popular Post Share Posted October 4, 2017 Hi all , wolves season ticket holder here , just thought I would join and give you some insight into the upcoming game with the sleeping giants . I work with a fair few villa fans so will just say exactly what I said to them ! 1. In order for you to win down at the Molineux you must stop us weaving our pretty patterns with the ball at all costs . (stop us playing ) if not you will get hammered ! 2. You must nullify our front three which ever ones they are , which I predict to be jota , bonatini and cavaliro with costa to enter the fray 2nd half . If not you will get hammered ! I think in kodja you have a game changer and game winner in your team , so we must keep him quiet at all cost . That could be difficult having watched your last 2 games . (Seems to have found form ) also Adomah could cause us problems, so not over looking him either . As a team we have struggled against the more physical sides in this league (Cardiff ) so this may be a tactic for you to use . I'm banking on the wolves team learning from past experiences, and being able to cope . Hopefully should be an enjoyable game and I'm really looking forward to it , more so for the banter come Monday morning with all my villa work mates when we collect another 3 points . Good luck ( you will need it ) and all the best for the rest of the season 8
blandy Posted October 4, 2017 Moderator Share Posted October 4, 2017 It could be a really good game. Different styles of play, different strengths and weaknesses. But two teams on decent runs of form and both with some dangerous players and some weaknesses. Wolves look good to watch from what I've seen on the telly, particularly when attacking, and after a period of a few years of being down in the dumps seem to have got things going definitely in the right direction, which is a good thing. I think the odds slightly favour Wolves, being at home, but Villa are dangerous at the moment. Please let there be a good ref.
AJ
Maybe Wolves will have an off game. I know it happens, because we seem to have one every third bloody week.

Forest passed us off the park at times a couple of weeks ago but didn't have the forward play to back it up. Wolves do however, and I have become increasingly frustrated at our lack of pressing. This will be a tough game that will require a more physical approach from Bruce if we are to get anything.
Villarocker
You know, I have a good feeling about Villa for this one. We are due a friendlier ref for a change and can see something happening in our favour for a change with us going there as second favourites - a bit of an underdog for a change. I have this crazy vision of us getting an early (ish) pen and them having one sent off, which leads to us sticking 4 or 5 past them. Wishful thinking probably but our luck with the refs has to change at some point! Whatever happens, as others have said, this one should be a really good game with in-form local rivals going at each other for the 3 points

Demitri_C
Hopefully be a good time to play them as they will have numerous players away like us. I think bruce will play negative for this one. Try frustrate them and nick a goal. If he goes in like that we will lose i have no doubt about that. We gotta take the game to wolves and show them who we are and good we can be

MikeAVFC
Bruce will go there and try to shithouse a 1-0 win. I actually wouldn't mind if we took this approach, away in a tough game. It's against the lesser sides where he has to play more positive football. Go there and make the game ugly, be tough to beat and try and nick it. Not that I think Wolves are Barcelona or anything, but they definitely have the legs on us and good players at the top end of the pitch. If we go there with a gung ho approach I think we could find ourselves in a bit of trouble. Edited October 7, 2017 by MikeAVFC
TweedHeads Villa
This game will hinge on who Bruce puts in for Taylor (what a ludicrous red) and whether he sets up the side to exploit Wolves 3 4 3 formation by playing wide and stretching them. Solid at the back of course but do not rely on lucky breakaways for the odd goal. Hit them hard at the start. Possible left field choice for Taylor replacement could be Whelan with Miles coming in in front of the back four if he is fit. Other than than possibly Mitch Clark who is quite quick on his feet if lacking a little experience. Looking forward to seeing the game in Australia on BEIN sport. Win this one and I think promotion is well on the cards. Edited October 8, 2017 by TweedHeads Villa

AVTuco Posted October 8, 2017 VT Supporter Share Posted October 8, 2017 Reading this thread so far I hope no-one blames Bruce IF he deploys negative tactics in this one.
Rugeley Villa
I think Bruce will be more than happy with a draw. We are more than capable of going there and spanking them, but I think he will try to hit them on the counter. If we go 1 up he will shut up shop which is dangerous. I'd take a point then two wins against Fulham and blues. Aslong as we get atleast 6 points from the next 3 we will be ok.
Jareth
I'm fairly sure we have some big game players in our team, and I think we will see something extra from the likes of Snodgrass, Terry and Kodjia that could prove the difference. Whelan also might play an important part for us. We will stifle them, so I'm going 0-0 or if it's to be our day 0-1.
supermon
Had a dream that Terry scored the winner with a header from a corner, Terry had a blinder of a game and we won 1-0. Believe!!
Andy81 Posted October 8, 2017 Visiting Supporter Share Posted October 8, 2017 (edited) Villa's defence (and midfield) will have to have a really good game to stop Wolves scoring. Just looking at the stats, only twice this season have we failed to score, and I think we've scored in every home game. Statistically, Villa will probably need two goals if they want to win the game.
