El-Reacho
Remember watching footage of Dean Smith talking to some students - he said (with respect to Terry) that he'd much rather have a coach with a determination to get better and move on to a bigger role elsewhere, than having a coach who was happy to stay in his comfort zone and remain long term. Rich192
He’ll be missed. One interesting thing about this, was that Gregg Evans had the article up on The Athletic just as Villa announced it. I wonder if the Villa decided to throw him a crumb, or if Terry told him?

striker Posted July 26, 2021 Visiting Supporter Share Posted July 26, 2021 Not shocked as some are. He was always going to move on and try his hand at being a manager. Will be easily replaced and probably for the better.

No doubt one of the younger guys would take the step up, but I think Terry is more likely to end up with an experienced assistant in his first job. Agreed here. It wouldn’t surprise me if he ended up with Jody Morris and some of Frank Lampard’s staff from Chelsea who are currently between jobs. They seemed to stay fairly tight with each other even while JT was at Villa.

est1874
Weird one. Always felt he gave 100% at Villa, perhaps he felt he couldn't continue to do that anymore now that he's fully qualified as a coach. All the best John.

I also note there is nothing on his Instagram Villa related (I can't see stories, only the main page) but he usually puts up "back to work" type pictures when training returns. On his way somewhere? I did wonder!
MachoFantastico
Not that surprised honestly, his name as been linked to a bunch of clubs recently. It was only a matter of time before his head would be turned to an opportunity. Best of luck John and thanks for the memories.

Guy is and always will be a world class bell end I don't think it's surprising that Villa fans would say thanks and all the best, it doesn't really take much. Leeds have had some world class bell ends who are considered club legends 'round your way. Glass houses, stones, and all that. John Terry is no saint but he gave his all for Villa during his season as a player here, and I've no doubt he instilled the right attitude in some of the players during his transition to coach.
ThunderPower_14
Sad to see him go, hope he does well wherever he ends up. I do hope that the success and development he's had here in our system might help attract other talented and ambitious assistants.
Popular Post Stevo985 Posted July 26, 2021 VT Supporter Popular Post Share Posted July 26, 2021 Don't like Terry as a person but you can't say he hasn't served us well while he's been here. Gave us one excellent season (at that level) as a player and has been Smith's right hand man on the journey we've gone through so far. I'm sure he could have walked into a manager's job straight away like Lampard and Rooney have done, but to take an Assistant's role and show the willingness to learn the trade rather than dive right in shows a lot about him He'll forever be synonymous with the resurrection of this club, so I wish him all the best.

I doubt he’d walk straight into a top job and so his new club would be unlikely to be able to offer our top coaches anything like what they already have at BMH. Herman22
Was shocked the day JT signed for Villa not shocked today. He's seen people with the same or less experience than him get some top jobs (Lampard, Gerrard, Ole, etc.). He'll want to test himself now as a manager and I hope it goes well for him. Hope it doesn't have too much of an effect on season prep.
