Moving the battlefield. It is genius in the short-term. How it plays out in the long-term is unknown of course. Hope there is another move that will surprise everybody.

A Russian court has sentenced amateur ballerina Ksenia Karelina to 12 years in jail for treason for donating $51 (£39) to a charity supporting Ukraine.

Karelina, who has American and Russian citizenship, pleaded guilty last week after a trial held behind closed doors.

She had been living in Los Angeles and became a US citizen in 2021. She was arrested during a family visit last January in Yekaterinburg, about 1,600km (1,000 miles) east of Moscow.

Prosecutors had sought a 15-year jail term. The court in Yekaterinburg found her guilty of high treason and sentenced her to imprisonment in a general regime penal colony.

Karelina had been accused by Russia's FSB security service of raising money for a Ukrainian organisation providing arms to the Ukrainian military.

Russian human rights activists said while living in the US she had made a single transfer of $51.80 on the first day of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine on 22 February 2022. The FSB is thought to have discovered the transaction on her phone.

What is an Amateur Ballerina? Surely you are a professional Ballerina or just a normal person who likes to dance?

I like how basically the only landmark of note in that area is an alcohol shop!

BBC reporting that Challenger 2's from UK have been used in Ukraine's Russia Incursion

Within 2.5 years of Boris Johnson saying that the days of tank battles is past, there are British tanks rolling across Russian soil.

Ukraine certainly know how to troll

Ukraine has set up a military administrative office in Russia's Kursk region, where its surprise incursion into Russian territory continues, according to its top military commander.

Gen Oleksandr Syrsky said the office would "maintain law and order" and "meet the immediate needs" of the population in the area.

In a video posted on social media, Gen Syrsky is seen telling a meeting chaired by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that the office has been created "on the territories controlled by Ukraine".

Russian Defence Minister Andrei Belousov has said Moscow will send reinforcements to "safeguard" the population in the region.

Should run some local elections as well.......the Ukraine seem to be goading Russia into a large counterattack,  maybe there's  another big play from the Ukrainian's once Russia fully commits.

I think they genuinely want Russia to start attacking Russian land. That would seriously send shockwaves through the civilian population. Evacuating areas is one thing, getting your homes and infrastructure blown to shit and having nothing to return to is another. I'm sure Sudzha is also a major gas hub to the West.

Yeah, could be a few awkward phone calls made if Russia bomb the crap out of Sudzha and cut off Hungary’s gas supplies right before winter.

Haha, so true.

Most people don't know this, but it was often Ukrainian, Estonian, Belarussian and Baltic brigades that took the brunt of almost everything outside of Russia in WW2 for the Soviets. Ukrainians also liberated large chunks of in example Norway.

The way Russia is digging trenches 45kms from where Ukraine is at in Kursk does seem a bit defeatist, it makes the job for Ukraine to create a true buffer zone (a true Stalinist term) within Russia both up in Bryansk and down in Belgorod as the trenches at the border can easily be overrun from the back in Kursk now.

Putin gets his buffer zone, just in his own territory.
