magnkarl
Ukraine saying the Russian troops in Kiev atm are saboteurs that have stolen their uniforms etc. This is going to be a grinding bloody city war for the unforseeable future. Problem is allowing them to do this, whats odds that nut job putin doesnt start giving nukes to that even bigger nut job from belarus? Will china think we can go get taiwan after seeing there was military action against the russians? Its a very unpredictable period Edited February 25, 2022 by Demitri_C

Demitri_C
Good to see neighbouring countries like poland are taking Ukrainians in. We should absolutely offer some homes here in the uk if and when there is a refugee crisis

Its a very unpredictable period I think the answer to the first question is that there would be no advantage to Russia in doing that, it's better for Russia for Belarus to be a dependent, reliant junior partner, not an equal. The second question is good, for sure. It's difficult. I suspect China knows that it *could* take Taiwan, and frankly it is a big risk in the short term and probably a virtual certainty in the long term. Taiwan could certainly better help itself by buying appropriate military hardware, rather than the flashy but useless stuff they seem to prefer to buy now. She use to prefer the times but as it wasn’t free she didn’t want to pay. Since then she started spouting more and more DM rhetoric which is really frustrating. They supply 40% of Europe's gas. Russia can hold its own for a good few years yet. They are hugely reliant on selling their oil and gas. Besides that they have very little export - a bit of rare metals and wheat. They've got a negative population growth and huge inflation. Russia still supplied Europes gas even throughout the cold war years.

It's not unfeasable for Norway and USA\Mexico to step up and cover at least part of that deficit. It'll hurt for sure but it needs to be done.
