He just didn't want all that complicated democracy, negotiation and diplomacy.

Popular Post Rodders
Tangent note Wimbledon 2023: Russian & Belarusian players can compete this year - BBC Sport Quote Russian and Belarusian players will be able to compete at Wimbledon this summer after the All England Club lifted the ban it imposed last year. The players were banned in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the support provided by Belarus. They will be able to feature this year "subject to competing as neutral athletes" and complying with certain conditions. Wimbledon starts this year on 3 July at the All England Club (AELTC).... depressing. Would love to know what has changed materially in the war to justify this stance? I know they've been allowed to play as neutrals elsewhere ( which is horseshit and means diddly squat ) but, it really should be maximum pressure across every avenue against russia and belarus, and I don't give a damn about a few collatoral sports players who can't do their thing for a few years. **** em. The "best" bit of criticism seems to be some pathetic mealy mouthed plea for peace, as vague as it is non committal in its avoidance of direct criticism. If the **** actually were particularly strident and vocal in criticising their country, I'd have more sympathy for them playing. But as it is, it is woeful that the ban has been lifted. Not even particularly blaming Wimbledon that much, more the gutless ATP/WTA heads who threaten loads of punishments that would wreck british tennis if they didn't lift it. Well I’m no expert, but I think the extermination of the vulnerable including children and the disabled was fairly high up on Hitler’s list and surely we could name a hundred towns and cities destroyed? That’s just a bizarre take on what happened in WWII. Just consider all the children of Jews or travellers that were sent to the camps, children of Poles, Slavs, Ukrainians. The destruction of Stalingrad, Guernica, Oradour, Coventry, Plymouth, London. A quarter of a million disabled people killed. I mean, I could go on but surely it doesn’t need repeating? 1

They banned them last year because they thought it would be good PR and then the ATP removed world ranking points from the tournament. Sports organisations don't like political stances because its bad for business/back handers. Look at FIFA, IOC etc. they want Russian money.
Spoony
Just on sport I found myself in a Wikipedia black hole looking at the Ukrainian football league. Some teams have ceased to exist thanks to the Russians. So many small things (in the grand scheme of things) have just been obliterated thanks to that absolute word removed of a country.
