What I heard anyway, was the US don't want to make much of it, as they wouldn't want to start getting directly involved with the Ruskies. Russia has been doing much the same all the time. It’s just that this time it seems they damaged the UAV rather than disrupted its flight path

Certainly looks a bit of a tool that fighter.

SU-27 was the aircraft type the US says was involved. I have no knowledge as to whether they can dump fuel, but assume they can.
Mandy Lifeboats
Interesting news coming out of Turkey. The Turkish Defense Minister is stating that they will allow USA ships into the Black Sea in order to protect NATO surveillance drones from attack. That's a massive headache for Russia. It’s a great way to get American surveillance ships and other tech into situation. Russia is well and truly ducked. The US did the same outside Split in Croatia when Milosevic was threatening there too. It’s a hell of a deterrent if you put some big ships outside Ukraine.

I think you have answered your own question. Turkey controls the Black Sea. They have prevented any new warships entering the Black Sea. This sends a clear message to Russia that escalation will not be ignored.
