magnkarl
Shoigu is up live on TV now. Comical Ali level stuff this. Why do you need to conscript 300.000 men if you have barely taken losses? Even backwards thinking Russians will react to the hypocritical actions of their leaders atm. ciggiesnbeer
What a nutter. I imagine that will stiffen the resolve of all of the free world. He has clearly lost his mind as all dictators do. As Biden rightly said, he is a butcher and needs to go.
magnkarl
I imagine China might have stopped the full mobilisation last night. It would not be good for China if Putin's regime disintegrated and Russia turned into a democracy.

ciggiesnbeer
Its worth remembering Ukraine gave up its nuclear weapons in 1994 in a signed agreement with Russia that Russia would respect and guarantee the security of Ukraine's sovereign territory, which included and includes Crimea and the Donbas in return tor Ukraine handing over its nuclear weapons to Russia. Thanks to Putin, nobody is ever going to trust Russia ever again.

Nonsense, it's a "tactical lie" as he needs to justify the mobilisation. Only way to do that is say he's fighting the west not just Ukraine
Genie
If Putin had said from the start he considers those areas Russia and wants them back he’d have a shred of decency/honesty. The whole de-nazification line is hilariously ridiculous.
LondonLax
Virtually all Russians do a year of army reserve training so most of the country would be eligible for the draft. He needs to find a narrative that allows the Russian people to support the move and so making parts of Ukraine officially part of Russia means he can sell to the public that their great fear has arrived, the West is invading the Russian homeland. It looks very much like he’s painting that picture at home, the West are trying to take down Russia. It’s hard to know how well it is landing in Russia though. Do enough regular Russians buy it? Exactly this, so he can use more and more troops and finally tactical Nukes to defend "Russian" territory

It's not going well for the VDV and Spetznas. Reports range from around 2.000 Russian soldiers to close to 10.000. Every town liberated by Ukraine also has injured Russians in the hospitals, so prisoner swaps must be getting to a point where Russia has no more to trade. Then Ukraine can start trialing soldiers and trying to get them to fight against Putin.

Reminds me of a war museum I went to in Vietnam. No acknowledgement of Vietnamese casualties in a battle where their casualties outnumbered American casualties by a factor of five. Typical communist prop, unfortunately.
