How can you possibly know that

Because I posted a straw poll of comments on the topic. The vast majority align with that view.

Technically I am incorrect in saying “nobody buys it” apologies. There might be a minority who think he is genuine and not using Ukraine to try to dig himself out of the mess he is in at home, but it’s a very small minority.

But where did you post it, if I were to raise a poll is the internet a good thing in an old people's home, most would say it's a load of rubbish. And if you get less than 1000 replies it's generally meaningless in a population of 60 million +

Since 2014, maybe before then Ukraine has been asking the UK (and others) to export various arms to them, to bolster their ability to defend themselves against Russian forces. Successive UK Governments declined to do so, until the war. The various UK foreign secretaries (including Johnson, who has since made the rare admission that it was a mistake) decided that they'd rather not upset Russia and try and get Russia to behave via diplomacy. While the UK did provide training and such like since 2014, it's only very recently that we've started to provide weapons and so on.

The idea that Johnson has been visionary or whatever is a nonsense - he was one of the people responsible for denying Ukraine what it wanted and needed over an extended period and it's widely accepted (with hindsight, even by him) that this was a mistake.

But in the credit column, his Government have been good in their recent support to Ukraine and he has generally spoken and acted pretty well since the war started.

Intersting thread on what getting the Blue Spear coastal missles to Odessa could do and bits about what Johnson and the UK Govt are attempting to do.

Blue Spear is the Mark 5 version of a Gabriel anti-ship missile, 400km range with a 240kg warhead. That could effectively close Sevastopol in Crimea to Russia’s Black Sea fleet.

It’s manufactured in Israel, a state famously associated with a particular branch of the Abrahamic faith. Perhaps Lavrov says Jews were the biggest anti-Semites wasn’t that smart after all… 😂

If this opens up the western Black Sea (we’ll need to put minesweepers in after Russia’s extensive sea-mining ops) then the starvation of millions in Africa, and politico-social meltdown in MENA, might yet be avoided.

Well just like Thatcher in 82, a conflict is a great way to divert eyes away from the domestic arena.

By all means flood Cork permanently, that is a sacrifice that I am willing to make.
