Absolutely heartbreaking and a disgusting disregard for human life.  The report was just shown on BBC1.  I've not quoted the text or linked to the videos directly as it is disturbing (even if the videos on the website are not as graphic as those shown post-watershed on TV just now).

War is always terrible, but you have to wonder what orders they were given. A lot of this stuff just seems so obviously unnecessary and avoidable, even in the context of a messy war.

Vladimir Putin ‘visited by cancer doctor 35 times and bathes in deer antler blood’

Russian president is said to keep a thyroid specialist at his side and regularly take steroids as a treatment

The Russian leader had Moscow-based Yevgeny Selivanov, a specialist in thyroid cancer for the “elderly and senile”, repeatedly flown out to his favoured residence in Sochi for a total of 166 days over four years.

Putin has also taken to bathing in the blood extracted from severed deer antlers as an alternative therapy, according to a report exposing his poor health as the Kremlin’s “main secret”.

Treatment for thyroid cancer usually involves steroids, which, according to charities, can trigger anxiety, hallucinations and even cause the patient to “imagine things that aren’t real”. Western intelligence sources have already voiced concerns over Putin’s state of mind.

Steroids can also cause swelling. Putin’s bloated appearance has previously led to whispers of plastic surgery.

Kremlin denies cancer

The Kremlin has denied that Putin, 69, has or had cancer but Proekt, a Russian banned investigative news organisation, said it had proof that was a lie.

Proekt revealed that Putin, who disappeared from public view for a month in September and now holds most of his interactions at one end of a very long table, has a retinue of medical staff travelling with him.

It said that Putin secretly underwent surgery last autumn. In medical circles, it said, it is believed that the president was undergoing a complicated procedure related to some kind of thyroid disease during this period.

I read this report earlier today, it really is heartbreaking to see. I put myself in the Ukrainian civilian’s shoes and wonder what I’d do in their position. It hard to even consider.

Some doubts about this story in the Times

Murdoch > Fox > TImes = got form for pushing Putin Propaganda

Russia trying to get more support from China by creating more suspicion about them in the West? Just a thought

I didn't know antlers had blood in them.

They contain blood vessels for sure, but I’m not confident you’d get enough blood out of them to fill a bath. Assuming the articles aren’t a badly aimed April Fools joke, I’d say Putin’s minions have more likely been filling the bath with the blood of some other poor animal. Goats, bears, peasants etc…

Putin's a piece of shit, but I'm taking all this antler blood stuff with a massive pinch of salt. Smacks of 'Hitler has only got one ball' type propaganda.
