Haven't Ireland (and others) just removed the need for a visa for Ukrainian citizens?

What's the problem with the UK doing that as well?

I think that would be a very good thing to do. We aren't, and I agree we should, but it doesn't make that tweet any more true.

Are china actually backing away or just on the fence? Or waiting to see how it pans out?

The abstention in the UNSC last night was a HUGE backing away from Putin. The message will have been sent loud and clear

3-4 days? Didn't it take the Americans about 3 days to practically level Fallujah with the ground to take it?

Lightening thrust air/ground to take Kyiv - remove/topple/murder the government - install Pot Noddle government led by former President - orders military to stop fighting - military surrenders - Back to Moscow for vodka and medals.

Sounds great if you leave out the question, ‘what happens if the Ukrainians actually fight back?’ That’s the problem with regimes where your ability to continue breathing depends on giving your boss the answer he wants.

Turns out javelins and stingers are extremely effective against Russian airships, tanks and armoured columns. Russia has exhausted a lot of its special forces without the columns behind being able to connect with them. Ukraine are defending themselves masterfully.

We need to get more of these weapons to Ukranians. We need to train them to fight insurgency. This is like Afghanistan in the 80s. Train them and arm them.

Be careful of wishful thinking. The truth is we don't know much of what is happening at this stage. I wouldn't put too much store on China's abstention right now since they also did this during the annexation of Crimea. It's only been a short time since the invasion began, so to say Russia hasn't rolled over the whole of Ukraine this morning does not show their invasion is bogged down.

I do hope the Russians pull back but I can't see them doing that without inflicting as much damage as possible first in order to bring all the cards to the negotiation table and partition the country.

This offensive from Russia is very different to the US one in Iraq. Iraqi's knew the US was coming in to topple a tyrant and they were going to lose regardless of resistance. Many Iraqi's celebrated the US invasion as they believed the future would be better.

This is Russia invading a country who elected their Government. Who are unified in their fight for their country. They know losing this or giving up will mean the future is bleak for them.

China is just staying out of it. They don't need to get involved and they probably benefit from it anyway as they'll get cheaper oil/gas from Russia and they will be less of the primary target from the West in the next decade so can go about their plans with less scrutiny.

Agreed.

Time to assist West Ukraine with SAM-systems too so they can build up a zone where aid can trickle in without being bombed.

The SU-35 being this vulnerable is a massive setback for Russia.

Not saying it’s likely to happen again but that came back to bite us in the arse big time (Afghanistan).

That's the problem with War. It often doesn't go to plan - with terrible consequences for all involved.

Surely this is a good time for Chechnya, Kurdistan, Georgia and other mistreated countries to rebel against their dictator overlord? Russia can’t be everywhere.

Last thing we need is Kurds fighting again. We need Turkey on our side right now.

Interesting thread if true. Kinda sounds too good to be true though.

We need to give them surface to air missiles to defend from bombing. We need to get them weapons. Drive the trucks to the border and let them take them to Kyiv. We have to cut Russia off from Swift and do "searches" of Russian transport ships.

We need to pressure Turkey to cut off the access to the Black sea and same with Egypt for Suez canal. We need eastern Med and Baltic sea to be full of Nato warships to search shits bound for Russia

Well they've nothing to be flying to anymore. West of Russia is not blocked to Russia. China will take what they want now from Russia as they are the only trading partner left

Also Boeing and airbus have likely turned off their software in Russian planes right now as per the sanctions.
