The last 5 seasons, top two teams and points after 26 games and after 46 games (more or less - not every team will have played 26 games at the same point) - 26 games. 46 games 16/17. Newcastle 55 Newcastle 94 Brighton 54 Brighton 93 15/16. Boro 55. Burnley 93* Derby 49. Boro 89 14/15. B’mouth 51. B’mouth 90 Ipswich 50. Watford 89* 13/14. Leicester 57. Leicester 102 QPR. 52. Burnley 93* 12/13. Cardiff 56. Cardiff. 87 Hull. 49. Hull. 79 After 26 games Burnley had 45 points in the 2015/16 season and 51 points in the 2013/14. Watford has 44 points. 3

So Burnley in 15/16 had 1 more point than we do now after 26 games and finished 2nd. Interestingly Derby were 2nd after 26 games on 49 points, exactly as they are currently, but ended up outside the top 2. in 13/14 Watford had 44 points after 26 games, the same as us now, and finished 2nd. in the other 3 of the last 5 years, the teams who finished 2nd had 49, 51 and 54 points at this stage - though in the former case of Hull in 12/13, they ended with a low total of 79 points. In summary, there is a big discrepancy on what is required from season to season, but history gives us hope that 2nd can be attained from where we are now IF we can have a strong end to the season. Also worth noting that no team in the last 5 years had as many points as Wolves do at this stage, which may bunch up the rest of the table a little. Popular Post omariqy
I think we should not worry too much about what has happened in the past. This year is quite different with Wolves being way ahead and about 4 or 5 teams all in the hunt for 2nd. It will be tight and it seems it will be quite a low total to get 2nd this year. We need to win our games and beat those around us. The rest will take care of itself.
Demitri_C
the thing is with whats happened with Wolves is unique, dont think its ever happened in this league before. I think even Newcastle and Brighton of last year would ahve struggled against these lot. Still think Wolves have been very fortunate with injuries, if Neves picked up a 5 month injury come February I think they would not be performing as well as they have. Also those teams with a high total in 2nd would often have gone up on a few less points as there was in most cases a big gap to 3rd place

Demitri_C
Quote Sky Sports Championship predictor: Where are Leeds, Aston Villa, Wolves and others tipped to finish? Last Updated: 09/01/18 9:33pm Sunderland are being tipped to go down by the Sky Sports predictor The stats-based Sky Sports Predictor is tipping Wolves for Championship glory and Sunderland to be relegated. Wolves are 12 points clear at the top heading into this weekend's games and are seemingly cruising towards the title and promotion, and the Predictor is backing them to be joined by Derby in the top two. Further down, Cardiff, Bristol City, Aston Villa and Leeds are being tipped to make the play-offs, meaning the likes of Middlesbrough, Sheffield United and Fulham will miss out. It is bad news at the bottom for Birmingham, Sunderland and Burton who are being tipped to go down, with Bolton and Hull among those to survive. The Sky Sports predictor is based on a system called Elo, originally set up to rate chess players. It takes into account form, who your team still has left to play, and how well a team has done in previous seasons. Click Nonsense. The same table backed us for midtable earlier in the season. rubberman
Rubbish indeed. When they did it mid November and we were 6th, it had us finishing 15th.
bobzy
So we have more chance of winning the title than Bristol City, but less chance than them of finishing in the top 2 or top 6?
rodders0223
So you are telling me the higher up the table you currently are the more chance you have of hitting top 2? Groundbreaking stuff this.
Eastie
How can wolves be linked with a £34m bid for a player ? we at least have parachute payments to help our finance - have they not heard of ffp?
