Mantis
Unfortunately there's now tremendous pressure on us every home game now that away games are a guaranteed defeat every time.

theboyangel
I fear the negative 532 formation is going to stay for a few games.... I wouldn't mind it if we pressed the opposition and dominated the middle of the park but Bruce opts to sit back and flood our own box hoping for a counter attack. Johnstone has to be dropped, which is sadly like he handles shots but bunn doesn't inspire me either. I think we'll see johnstone bree.elphick.chester.baker.taylor lansbury.jedinak.houihane kodija.hogan prediction: 0-

One For The Road
For the first time this season, I couldn't give a **** about this game. I feel like not going, missing my first league game for 2 months. I've had enough for now. Bad times indeed.

Popular Post BOF Posted February 6, 2017 Moderator Popular Post Share Posted February 6, 2017 Keep it on the ground. Less of the hoofball. Especially as I suspect that would play right into Ipswich's hands. We have footballers now, and there were glimpses on Saturday of how we could tear teams apart if we just believed a bit more. I hope the tentative tactics are only an interim measure until Bruce is confident that they all know each other's game and can trust their positional sense. There's a good team in there. Just need it to continue developing now.
villaglint
A welcome relief that I won't be able to watch this one. Seems to drastically increase our chances of winning.

Just need it to continue developing now. Also hoofball plays directly against our strengths now too. Hogan I noticed barely attempted to win any headers as it's clearly not his game. And Kodjia while he may have a decent leap from a cross I have noticed is pretty poor at flicking it on and even worse at bringing a high ball down. To be fair both of those things are tough to do and you generally need to be a specialist to be any good at it but all the more reason we need to be playing clever balls down channels/into feet rather than the launcher. I do wonder a bit whether that is down to our CBs. Not sure Pep will be beating down the door for any of them. John
So we welcome back the team that will never forgive us for taking the league title they thought they had won at Villa Park 36 years ago. Sir Ron Saunders asked back then "Do you want to bet against us" and no doubt some Villa fans may be tempted to do so this weekend. Ipswich finished 4 points behind us that season (when it was still 2 points for a win). Ipswich beat us 2-1 at Villa Park that season and have beaten us twice in the league at Villa Park since then (1-0 in seasons 81/2 & 93/4). They are level on points with us so I would rather like us to win this one. That would maintain our unbeaten home record and how we need to cling onto that! A win would also give us a chance to get 2 wins from this and from our next game home game against Barnsley which would take us belatedly up to 42 points. It will not be easy (we have shown that nothing is for us of late) but I do think we can win this one and I'm going for a fourth successive 2-1 home win against them. I would start with Johnstone, Bree, Chester, Baker, Amavi, Adomah, Lansbury, Hourihane, Bjarnason, Kodjia & Hogan with Jedinak and Taylor among those on the bench if they are fit. We need goals to win games because we cannot rely on not leaking them in at the other end!

Raver50032
After Cardiff, Wolves, Preston, Brentford and Forest, I have a feeling that tossing in the home record of being unbeaten at home is going to be an unsavoury experience for Mr Bruce. We have to go balls in for a win here in my opinion. We have to start seeing some fight... not petulance... but some footballing guile and intent to create. The time for apology and apathy has come and gone. It's time to deliver. ITFC are in an iffy rut too - crashing out of the cup at Lincoln their notable recent lowlight. Draws are not good enough now. Our remaining home games are all winnable. With this squad, and with this manager, they are winnable.
