Wait so you’re saying he didn't improve things over his tenure?

Maybe very slightly. Same old story though, come up against a top team - we lose. And we progressed in Euro 2024 with some absolutely dire football which was not entertaining in the slightest.

God only knows how we can be that shit against mediocre opposition and end up in the final. It will never happen again.

And Southgate will be lauded even more...

Next manager will no doubt get a string of injuries to key players, the group of death and a horrible knock out game

Carragher will scream I told you so

It'll happen as long as the crop of players are this good. If you've got someone who can lick an overhead kick in the 96th minute or someone who can take a touch and put it into the bottom corner from an impossible angle in the 90th minute, it can happen. Only problem is in the final you're likely facing an actually good team and these little party tricks start to fall flat in the face of an organized team who also have very good players.

100%. We’ll get out of the groups but get a France, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Argentina, Germany in the first knockout round in consecutive tournaments and then there will be talk of getting Gareth back.

Rumours that Ben White will return to the England fold.

Just shows you it was Southgate's team (Holland inparticular) that was the reason, despite Gareth saying it wasn't

Holland is an absolute bell end so absolutely no surprises there. You can imagine Southgate allowing it all as well, Holland was certainly telling him what to do with some things....

Will no doubt try but honestly he's not better than TAA, James, Walker or Konsa

And I say that as someone who thinks walker is in the group of players the next manager needs to move on from on

White is ok, he's certainly not first choice or good enough to give it the big un

Apparently the BBC are trying to get him signed as a MOTD regular. Imagine him with Danny Murphy...I can't wait!

Jeez, imagine them doing punditry on one of our games

"was not happy at all with villa's approach to the game. where were all the long balls to watkins? tielemans passing it forward all the time rather than going back to martinez...and the way they pushed for a 2nd after going 1 up, just makes no sense at all"

Southgate's first choice left back for England's best shot at a trophy in our lifetimes, Kieran Trippier, has been immediately dropped like a stone by his club and is begging for a new job.

Harsh. Southgate’s first choice was Luke Shaw, but he was injured most of the time. Trippier did ok, but only ok. Then again he’s a right back who had a rotten end to last season and looks past his best. Southgate was blessed with creative players, but no options for left back.

Yeah, the left back problem was genuinely v difficult for Southgate. It wasn’t a case of there being an obvious answer.

It wasn't, Tyrick Mitchell was the obvious answer.

Yeah he would have been perfectly acceptable, Rico Henry too when fit but was never given a chance.

Same as the midfield

He knew it was a problem, it's not that Shaw wasn't fit before the tournament it was that Shaw constantly has fitness trouble, chilwell was old and playing poorly, a sensible manager looks at 3 or 4 players as alternatives, he stubbornly stuck with the guys who never let him down

The difference with the midfield is he got lucky with mainoo
