"Some English poets to read before bed" cut to shot showing a few Seamus Heaney books.

Expect an angry letter!

he was born in NI so that makes him British :)

Thought last night's show was a little lame by TG standards, still more entertaning than a lot of programmes these days though.

I actually really enjoyed last week's , with the pensioner friendly vehicle. Made me chuckle anyway.

Yeah,  but I still find myself annoyed by the set pieces sometimes.  I actually annoy myself by letting them annoy me because I know that it is going to happen before the show starts, but the bit where Jez accidentally smashed his own back window with a log (perfectly captured by a wide camera shot even though they were just driving down a random road...) and the river crossing were the things tonight.  How did the camera crew get across? How did they know the point they chose to land on would be suitable? Why did it appear that half of it was being filmed from a bridge 200 yards away?    It was still good fun though and I think they should have actually used it as a 90 minute long Xmas special because it was miles better than the India film which did get used as a special.

Not too long until the next series though.  Clarkson put this up on Twitter two minutes after the show ended:

Thanks for watching. We'll be back in the Summer.

He also put this picture up of captain slow having a crafty cigarette.

Looking good, James.

Please don't tell me what I can and what I can't watch thanks.

I happened to watch it because

a) I like car programmes and very occasionally they actually talk about cars rather than some political or purile shite from Clarkson etc

B) I had bad jet lag after an 11 hour flight back from the states and rather than watching online casino - seen quite a few real ones recently thanks - I thought I would "catch up" with some good old BBC TV

so thanks for the concern and I look forward to your list of what I can and can't watch in the coming weeks - note I am not around tomorrow night so you can have a night off

Made no attempt at all to tell you what you could watch. Just expressed surprise that since you solely post to tell us how bad you think Top Gear is - and that you hate Clarkson

^^ So why watch it? I don't like 95% of programs on TV so I simple choose not to subject myself to them. Its all very easy really.

I have this argument with myself (yes myself) almost every series yet I still watch it. Its almost out of habit due to watching it since the days of Chris Goffey, Quentin 'clocking' Wilson, when Clarkson spoke like Mr Cholmondley-Warner and I even remember Noel Edmonds on it. However I now tend to record it and skip through it because most of it is so irrelevant to almost everything. When they do 'the news' it just turns into some sort of boring chat whilst a number of attractive women are pushed to the front and strangely laugh in front of a bunch of Subaru owners. The car reviews themselves are generally still good but it always starts with the car being slagged off till at the end its amazing or the other way round.

The production itself is probably second to none and I am very jealous of their jobs and would be great to do it. But just because it'd be great to do it it doesn't make it great to watch yet it still has a massive following, probably due to people like myself watching out of habit, others that seem to think its almost cool to watch (as twitter and a Benjamin Button type live audience reflects) then probably a dwindling number who genuinely actually enjoy all of its silliness.

Part 1 was a lot better than part 2, which suffered to much with heavily scripted jokes which are re hashed show after show.

The thing is, i bet there are hours of unscripted stuff left out of these specials that are funnier than the scripted bits left in.
