Popular Post nick76
We should be not scared of anybody in this division, just respectful. We have the most expensive and best squad on paper. We have won four on the trot and only just starting to get some confidence after years of problems. We will only fail because of ourselves as on paper we are better than the rest. Wolves are a good team, as are Cardiff and Leeds and we should not fear them. We should respect them but we should take the game to them.

Yes, that's fair. Due to 2 things I think - firstly confidence of the players. The little run of good results has seen them playing with more confidence, and towards the end, for about a minute or two yesterday they was a tiny flash of quick pass and move football, just on the right inside right position with Snodgrass and (I think) Elhomady and maybe Onomah. A tiny glimpse of what could be possible, let off the leash (either of tactical caution*/ players being nervous *delete according to opinion). I think it's unfair to criticise the manger for players seeming uncomfortable in possession or for messing up simple passes, but it is fair to criticise the coaching for tactics which involve hoofball - which wasn't the case yesterday.

Two birds with one stone. Baker was a good defender at this level, but he was easily the worst offender when it came to hoofing. Terry is a different class in that respect.

Even when we are in bad form he talks about mentality, desire, confidence, attitude etc. These are the areas Bruce focussed upon, he is a mentality manager of the old school. Have you ever heard him talk about possession, retention of the ball, phases of play, patterns or styles of play. About pressing, winning the ball back early, about holding onto the ball and controlling games. I don’t think I’ve heard one comment from him in all his time her that was any way related to any of this, it’s always about the mental side of the game. He said himself he isn’t into tactics and everything I’ve seen and heard since he has been here backs that up. Im not being critical as such, sinpky explaining why I don’t think Bruce will look to have us retain the ball through tactics although it may we’ll happen as a consequence of the combination of better players, positive results and confidence. That though isn’t the same as it being driven by the manager.

He likes to ping the occasional long ball though and is quite good at it. Probably something he never had the license to do at Chelsea.

Here - here, I would not mind one jot if he left the club tonight. this guy is not the future of Aston Villa - regardless of us stumbling into the premier league or not next year. it would be churlish to claim papering over the cracks - but long term viability no way

He must see us giving the ball back so easily as a problem as more often than not it's down to a poor pass or trying to play the wrong pass when it's not on. This happens over and over again. It's just careless. But I agree he seems happy to let the opposition have the ball for long spells of the game as long as they can't break us down. Edit: Its almost small team mentality. Very true, the likes of Whelan, Snodgrass and Hourihane - all from genetic groups that were born in caves. That Portuguese lot and their gloves will develop SAD and flee for sunnier climes on the stroke of Jan 1st. 3

I think the fact Bolton are probably the worst team in the league and play at a brand new stadium with undersoil heating shows how strong this league is these days. Gone are the days of foreign players struggling in the harsh playing conditions of English winters. It doesn't even get that cold anymore!

The defence that has leaked very few goals this season? If our defence is not good enough to contain them then none are in this league. Although Taylor being banned means they will certain target the left side

Lets not start making excuses already. Its Wolverhampton Wanderers for gods sake. It's not who they are . It's more how they play . I'm guessing we'll have , against Wolves , about 30% possession, and if we're really lucky ,maybe nick a victory.
