fightoffyour Posted March 28 VT Supporter Share Posted March 28 If you can't see the pitch from the pool, it's utterly pointless. If you can, it's brilliant.

Thing is, that spot will get used 7 days a week, and paid for through the nose, they’re adding 2 Michelin star restaurants there too, again, probably tables booked through the week and fully before games. Another example of how being a team in london benefits. Theres so much money being spent, feels like even these small london teams will surpass our commercial revenue once they update themselves. We need a plan!

We need a plan! What's the revenue going to be from a little poolside bar thing? It's not going to be substantial, surely? Do we even have the clientele for it? Restaurants make a lot more sense, as does the idea of making the surrounding area more of a general entertainment hub where people go throughout the week to spend money. I do wonder how long it'll be before the money made from non-footballing investments is excluded from FFP, though.
Rich192
Non-footballing income should absolutely be excluded from PSR rules. Hotels, concerts, and other sports hosting should not be allowed to be spent on football. By all means allow the parent companies to profit from it, but not the football club. As in, that pool will be part of a service that will mean people might pay a monthly membership to use it all week. Pool, gym, restaurants, its all dough they’re earning when footy isnt on. We absolutely do not have the clientele for it, just saying its a good example of how london clubs benefit. Edited March 28 by spiezels

Why should clubs be held back because they’ve been savvy enough to think ahead?

Because in some inventive way the Saudi owners will put some of the Saudi companies under the Newcastle company thus massive profits and be able to buy whoever they wanted. They only need to put one cash cow company under Newcastle’s corporate structure and then they will have got around all the PSR.

I think this nicely summarises the problem, that many fans are primarily concerned about sporting equality (from which perspective it seems bad that clubs can monetise 'being in London' and others can't), whereas PSR rules are about ongoing financial viability, from which perspective these things are great. How is a hotel different than getting a pint in terms of "additional revenue"? There is no clear lines between being able to watch NFL at VP or going to Villa Live to watch it on a big TV and spend money there. If it's club selling stuff, it adds to the bottom line. Villa_Vids
https://www.avfc.co.uk/news/2024/march/28/New-express-city-centre-shuttle-buses-set-to-launch-on-matchdays/ Quote Aston Villa is delighted to introduce a new city centre shuttle bus service, helping supporters to travel more easily and efficiently to and from Villa Park on matchdays. With a nod to the club’s finest hour and our 1982 European Cup victory, the ‘AV82’ service will start on Saturday 30th March for our home Premier League fixture against Wolves. The service will run on a trial basis for all other men’s home matches until the end of the 2023/24 season, covering all Premier League and UEFA Europa Conference League fixtures. Villa_Vids
Good news? Or does it mean Witton Station is not being redeveloped? Hopefully this will increase the chances of the North Stand being built before the euros. Edited March 28 by Villa_Vids

No way that's happening overnight, so even if it does go ahead this will help massively in the interim.
HanoiVillan
Anything which reduces pressure on the roads outside the ground and disperses fans into the city centre is good news.
