Shamefully I can’t remember what my first game was but I think it was Sheffield Wednesday and I was around 14. Regi blinker scored the first and then we won 4-1. Can’t remember who scored for us though although I’m sure a player got a hatrick. I blame the booze for my shit memory.

Popular Post StewieGriffin
Had the pleasure of meeting Sir Brian 3 years or so ago when he did a book signing in Solihull for his last book. I only know him as a manager, but explained he had been my grandad's favourite player and he'd told me endless stories about him. Most ex-footballers would have just said "ah, thats nice", signed the book and moved me along to deal with the next in line. Not Brian Little. He took the time to ask me how my grandad was, and I explained he'd passed away a couple of years before. He told me that football is a great way of keeping people's memories alive and that there was nothing more special hearing the Holte End roar, especially when they sing H.I.T.S. He took a rough guess as to my age and assumed I loved the 95/96 season and I told him Id loved it up until the FA Cup semi and he apologised and said the whole club felt we'd win the Cup that year and kick on to challenge for titles in a couple of seasons but then things just didn't quite work out that way but that was the way of the world. He didn't have to do any of that (especially as the queue was massive) and for those couple of minutes I felt like I was a little boy falling in love with football and Aston Villa all over again. When I left the signing, I watched the weekends Championship highlights on my phone during my journey home and remembered that adult Aston Villa was, at times, harder to love Although that season did end very well... My first was under Ron Atkinson. Sheffield Wednesday at home in 1993. I was 13. 2 all. When Neil Cox scored for Villa the Holte End started singing 'We've got Cox and you aint' at full volume. Amazing day which cemented me as a Villa fan. Brian Little was my favourite manager growing up though. Not only because of the Coca Cola Cup, but some of the football we played under him was sublime. The players had real character too.
Popular Post PaulC
Hes my all time favourite Villa player. The highlight for me was going to white hart lane on the night world cup winners Ardilles and Rikki Villa made their debuts. Gregory played up front for us and Villa won 4-1 and Brian Lilttle was superb and stole the show.

One of those nights !!! 11 goals in that competition that season. Basically he won the club for us, especially with the two goals at Goodison. One word, one word only legend. Arguably the greatest ever player to wear our famous colours

I believe it was a night game and we were trying to get radio updates. One of the newspapers next day had a back page headline, “Villa 1 - Villa 4.”

Yes and we were in Wales so I’m not sure we got anything. I remember the headline the next day, so that could have been the first time I knew the result. Happy memory though.

baldivisvilla
My first game was Norwich at home in 67. Best ever Villa player in those 54 years in my opinion. Goal that sticks in my mind is the 2nd goal v Sunderland April 75 at a packed 57000 Villa park.

We never really adjusted to the 2000s whereas Unai seems to have totally modernised us, on and off the pitch. You’re absolutely correct about Brian, a true Villa man. He probably had sumilar faults to Dean in that he was too nice as a man nevertheless he did great for us as a player (brilliant) and also a manager. If it was more recently a league cup win and qualify for the CL, he’d have a statue by now. Unfortunate timing I suppose, but never the less very very good manager and an awesome player, probably my favourite growing up. He was also an absolute gentleman a real credit to the club as well as a loyal servant. Perhaps name the new North stand after him? I’d support that idea. Or change the name on the Witton Lane? The Brian Little Stand sounds great and gives him the recognition he deserves and never really got from his country. Brian loves our club and has done for a long time like a lot of us. I may start a campaign! Any support for the idea? 4
Popular Post delboy54
I was worried when I saw this thread...................phew ! Saw him play many times over the years in the dark days at Villa in the late 1960's and 1970's esp the 1977 semi final replay hattrick against QPR. He is my all time favourite player. Fortunate to have met him twice, the first time my daughter said "who was that old man you were talking to?" !!!! ( I have since re-educated her) Second time was in the Holte Suite when he signed his latest book for me a few years ago before we got relegated, I suggested that he come out of retirement and play the last 10 mins for us to show the current team how it should be done! We also talked about where has all our hair gone ! Lovely, lovely guy, a true Mr Aston Villa. I hope maybe some of our current players will step up as well for our club behind the scenes when their playing career comes to an end.....perhaps in the future Tyrone Mings could do a similar job?
