TRO
Is there a danger that there is more activity/speculation on here than the place of where it should be?
Keyblade
This is more depressing than when we signed Grant Holt from Wigan (reading that back, that actually happened!?)
TRO
We have been having to sell our good players, to balance the books from the so many bad players.....Consequently our good ones are planning their exit strategy as soon as this penny drops. Good players like Delph and Benteke want to play with other good players, but we only find them now and again and the said players see this and want to move on. Until we reverse the trend of increasing the ratio of good v bad signings I can't see us ever moving forward. sure money is required to do this and a cement mixer of talent spotting Nous to boot. I'm not saying the frenchies are poor, but for 40 mill, it is arguable it could have been better spent.

Popular Post OutByEaster? Posted January 26, 2016 Moderator Popular Post Share Posted January 26, 2016 We've got Amavi, Gana, Veretout and Ayew for £50m on top of that we've had some busts in Ilori and Crespo, but they weren't the money, we've picked up Richards, one that looks like a flop in Gestede and one that might turn out good in Traore and a starting GK who will make an adequate back up. Good money spent and good value for that money - including good sell on value. Last summer wasn't the problem, it was the start of a solution - the current problem appears to be that we're going to ignore it and go back to the bargain hunting 10 for £30m rubbish that got us into the hole that last summer couldn't get us out of. For £40m in today's Premier league, you're lucky to get two players capable of being good in top half teams - that's the reality. We've spent a lot of money really badly, Hollis is right in that - we stopped doing it, the transfer policy we showed in the summer is the right way forward - Fox/Reilly and a manager is the right idea and it even works right - what went wrong was that we underestimated how far behind we were and we went at it too aggressively - the manager then didn't help the players as they landed and we ended up with half a squad. The lesson we appear to be taking from that, personified by Steve Hollis, is the wrong lesson I think. We need more summers like last summer, not less - if January is anything to go by, we're back in the Lambert bargain bin buying lottery tickets.

That list is ridiculous - some bad budget signings over the last few seasons against some good budget signings over a 25 year period in our distant past? We paid just £4,700 for Pongo Waring - why are we wasting more than that on players that don't even score 200 goals??

Zatman
Id bring Pongo Waring back, probably still has more movement and be more dangerous in front of goal than Kozak and Rudy
Richard
Scott it's more than just Hollis coming on board, in a role above his grade just cutting costs. It's basically the club not having one idea about the business of football and stumbling from one mistake to another not giving a shit about football
OutByEaster? Posted January 26, 2016 Moderator Share Posted January 26, 2016 My worry is that in stumbling from one mistake to another, we'll rush past finding a way to fix it before giving it a chance to work.

What was instrumental was 1) not having a decent squad into which our new signings could slot and 2) having a very poor manager who had no idea how to integrate the "frenchies" into the squad and couldn't even bring himself to speak to some of the new signings Personally I think the "frenchies" are the best four players in our squad and we would be hard pressed to have got better value for £34m elsewhere.

I'm including that in one of the mistakes. We are a shambles total and utter and to be frank we will be down for a while The whole club is a mess. He would have been better not even appointing a chairman until the summer at the least.
