On balance, if I had to choose, I'd go for a top quality cask ale with little choice over a number of ales that aren't well looked after. But obviously, what I'd ideally like is at least a couple of quality guest ales that change on a rotor and aren't always just the same old same old. What drives me insane is when they have 2 beers on and it's London Pride and Pedigree or Doom Bar. Pisses me off no end. You're selling the same beer twice mate and I don't like either. Popular Post Xann Posted Saturday at 20:31 Popular Post Share Posted Saturday at 20:31 We went to the Arch House in Bermondsey yesterday, the tap room for Anspach & Hobday. It's a fairly basic industrial unit drinking hole underneath busy train lines on the Beer Mile. The charm is it's attractive to lager, bitter and porter drinkers. It has a pale or two, but they don't dominate the selection. As it's October I had a glass of their Ansbacher Festbier. Their standard Ansbacher German style lager is very good. The festbier was bang on. The drinking is so good we didn't get around to the Ayinger Marzenbier, which they had on a guest tap and we both love. I'd guess its signature pints might be the porters? A lot of black stuff is consumed. A&H and Hammerton tap rooms should be visited if you're in London and your drinking habits are on the dark side?
Tegis Posted Sunday at 19:27 VT Supporter Share Posted Sunday at 19:27 Thornbury Castle in Marylebone. Great place, lovely Ales and even better food. Prefect pub after a Wembley visit. Very "persuasive" barmaid as well
sidcow Posted Monday at 08:26 VT Supporter Share Posted Monday at 08:26 Sad news. Eddie Fitzpatrick of The Lamp Tavern has died. A real Birmingham legend. I always remember asking him how his Guinness was and he replied 'it's up to you but personally I wouldn't touch it with a **** ing bargepole" I do hope The Lamp continues.

His grandson, my best mate for years and best man at my wedding. I shed a little tear as if he was my own grandad. Some of the nights I had in that pub. I remember almost burning down the kitchen cooking a fry up the morning after we beat SHA 5-1. Through all the smoke, he just said 'Jaysus, has no one ever taught you to fry eggs'. He passed away with all those he loved by his side.

Xann Posted Monday at 19:39 Share Posted Monday at 19:39 Boxparks can go either way depending on location and who takes the units? Shoreditch has stuff going on anyway, so meh. Camden is on the old street market site, that was a big net loss. Croydon seemed like a lost battle, but the Boxpark gave it a focal point again. However, they do seem popular to those that use them and Bimingham, as the second city, probably should have one.

Wainy316 Posted Tuesday at 08:31 Share Posted Tuesday at 08:31 (edited) Only been to the Box Park at Wembley before Villa games. Serves a purpose for that and you don't get covered in beer because you don't actually watch the game there.
