That's exactly what's wrong with this country.

This country is not the free-trading nation it once was.

We have become too lazy, and too fat on our successes in previous generations.

Companies who could be contributing to our national prosperity – but choose not to because it might be too difficult or too time-consuming or because they can’t play golf on a Friday afternoon – we’ve got to be saying to them if you want to share in the prosperity of our country you have a duty to contribute to the prosperity of our country.

The problem is I need MBAs from Romania to help me jar them for less than the living wage.

Anyway, sorry old chap, must dash, got a tee time at the Belfry to make doncha know.

I think you'll find Liam Fox sees Brexit as an opportunity to level this playing field in the name of free trade.

British plebs just don't see a zero hours contract with no-notice dismissal living on my rural farm to be attractive. They just pick their noses and collect Pokemon all day. My lawyer says I'm not allowed to specifically aim for them when they wander across the fairways waving their phones above their heads though.

Is it just my confirmation bias or did the Labour conference convey real hope of improvement while the Tory conference is just a confirmation of how evil they are?

evil is a strong word, I mean, they didn't suggest we actually smash Polish Shop windows

just name and shame companies employing Poles

I suggest a calm and measured approach where we just daub their windows

I'm finding it hard to judge which is more barking mad, personally. One lot has morphed into the UKIP and the other into the Socialist Workers Party.

Amber Rudd was just on radio 4. So this is my hurriedly remembered transcript of what was just said, doubtless it will be on i-player later:

Nick Robinson: People in the Conservative Party accused Gordon Brown of borrowing the language of the BNP when he mentioned British jobs for British workers. You are going further, you talk of shaming people and businesses, you appear to be taking what some would describe as sneering Daily Mail headlines and turning them in to policy.

Amber Rudd: I'll let other people be the judge.

Nick Robinson: You've suggested businesses are forced to publish lists of how many foreign workers they have and that they will be publicised, named and shamed.

Amber Rudd: That's just one of the tools in our armoury. It's a consultation.

Hell of a speech to give on the 80th anniversary of Cable Street. Get the white paint out boys, we're gonna daub some windows.

The problem with publishing lists is that it doesn't really give much specific information and probably only applies to larger businesses.  So where there are foreign-owned shops, you mention painting the windows, which would certainly help.  Surely a better step would be simply to smash the windows.  That might make it more likely to prompt people to use our good British businesses instead of these foreign ones.

And when these foreign chaps are out and about, it's not always immediately obvious that they are foreign, as some of them have adopted skin tones similar to our indigenous people.  Some kind of simple badging system would be most helpful, and would help guide us in our interactions with our foreign guests.

it's interesting they mention Brown ... I remember posters on this forum howling with outrage saying it was all just a misunderstanding when Brown uttered his phrase in a bid to entice lost labour supporters back from the BNP ....

there seemed to be a bit more to her speech than  "name and shame " (  I haven't been watching and seen a lot of news of late but it sounded like they were words posed to her by a radio presenter  rather than words she actually said  ? )

she appeared to be saying  we need to  change the tide of public opinion on immigration in the wake of the vote to leave the EU and firms weren't training enough British workers ... in that regard it sounds like a sensible conversation to be having   ? She actually campaigned to remain which doesn't suggest she is one of these ill informed people types either
