The banker loving, baby-eating Tory party thread (regenerated)

It's not much of a win, really, the ruling is solely around the due process of Rwanda's asylum claims. The policy itself hasn't been deemed unlawful, their sole concern is that Rwanda might force them back to their home countries instead of respecting asylum claims.

That doesn't seem an insurmountable issue to address on further appeal

It will go to the supreme court now won't it.

There will be plenty of Tories, and other right wing nut jobs, pleased with this outcome as they can use it to push for leaving the ECHR.

Not sure this ruling had anything to do with the ECHR. The court ruled that Rwanda wasn't an acceptable third country, specifically Rwanda

This is just a game to be honest, obviously the appeal will go to the Supreme Court (or maybe it won't, they could refuse) and that will yet again take forever given the backlog at which time we are more or less in election campaigning time at which point they'll use it to fire up their dwindling support. It won't work.

The Tories are happy enough to keep kicking this up a court until they can do it no further, it keeps their pet issue in the news and yet they haven't done anything. This game is obviously costing the tax payer absolute fortunes for defending the indefensible

Sunak mentioned him again the other day, that Starmer is a disgrace for working along side him for 4 years… what did Corbyn do exactly?

I mean that argument is so easily countered by simply retorting that Sunak supported Johnson.  Corbyn is a thousand times the human being that he is.

They are going to use this as the reason they didn’t stop the boats.

The dragon has already started that line. BBC

Rwanda policy: Suella Braverman says plan to stop the boats is being held back

“Phoney humanitarianism" is holding back plans to tackle small boat crossings, the Home Secretary has said.

Suella Braverman told MPs the abuse of the UK asylum system was "lining the pockets of people smugglers" and "turning our seas into graveyards".

It follows a Court of Appeal decision which ruled government plans to send asylum seekers to Rwanda were unlawful.
