They literally don’t know what to do at this stage. They seem to be actively avoiding suggesting anything sensible / useful.

There isn't anything sensible or useful that they can do.

All they can do is lay little bits of bait to see if Labour blow themselves up. But there doesn't seem to be any sign that they're interested in that bait.

Why not? There’s plenty to be fixed, yes they broke it but they could pretend to ignore that and pledge to fix things.

Because people don't trust or believe them.

They can promise whatever they want, nobody is going to vote for them because they are promising to do x, y or z. Because they've had the chance to do x, y and z and haven't bothered.

Their reaction to a poll in which a centrist is forecast to demolish them at a general election and the news that a right wing extremist nutcase might steal votes from the lunatic fringe is to ask how they can better compete for that lunatic fringe vote. It's not hard to see why they're about to go extinct is it?

It is not and never will wash though will it. Was it yesterday they pledged to open 100 new GP surgeries having closed 2500 since 2010. Every instance of them saying they'll do something can be met with but you've destroyed that very same thing you'll say you'll start to fix. It is like an arsonist burning your house down then offering to start laying a few bricks to rebuild it.

After 14 years they have nowhere to hide and everything that is wrong in on them.

But as above, what can they offer* to that group that would change any votes? Even in a world where they know they'll lose the election and are just trying to claw back a bit of Surrey and Hertfordshire, what policy do they announce that makes that sort of voter change their Lib Dem or Labour vote back to a Tory one?

They barely have anything to offer to the lunatic fringe, but at least that lot might still be stupid enough to believe it.

*"we'll just pretend Brexit didn't happen and go back to 2015" notwithstanding

It's bizarre though to see the government in a desperate race to extremism with a conman for the benefit of a larger share of 5% of the electorate while the other 95% stand off to one side just staring at them and wondering when they'll do something about the state of the place.

It is, but my question wasn't rhetorical.

What do they have to offer that group that makes any significant number of them change their voting intention and not just roll their eyes?

I genuinely can't think of anything.

Indeed. Why aren't they working harder on policies and ideas that effect, relate and engage the majority of the electorate, why aren't they talking about the things that people care about?

It's a question that tells us a lot about how donors run politics.

Toilets.

Sort out who’s hiding in your toilet and the rest will pretty much look after itself.

Party of weirdos, scammers, and scummers.

I want to know what happened to those 40 new hospitals we were all promised in 2019.

A proper journalist should ask for a list to be published.

Whilst we're at it where is the extra £350m a week being spent in the NHS?

Tbf that was a vote leave promise, not a Tory one.

Thats fair but it was Boris Johnson who delivered that figure and also said it would actually be a higher figure. He was the poster child of Vote Leave.
