Out of curiosity, if you had a cushy job and control over the date of your work review, would you bend the rules so the review happened whilst you were mid way through a huge **** up that was costing your company billions?

No, I'd be too busy crapping myself I'd be caught out, sacked, taken to court, and finally imprisoned.

It is very dark blue isn’t it. I’ve got a new one and I think the casual observer in less than science lab lighting conditions might describe it as… black.

Black passports. Are WE the evil ones?

By my powers of deduction, you lack a proper education where such trivial worries are thrashed out of you leaving only narcissism and a love of matrons special punishments and rewards.

More than half of those on the committee were Tories too.

What a result!

Now the police are investigating Bernard Jenkin's lockdown breach.

Keep it coming guys. It's all good.

Worth reading the thread about the account holder’s perception of Johnson from knowing him from afar at Cambridge and more broadly people of that character.

Nothing you haven’t heard a thousand times before, but summed up nicely with this brief excerpt from The Wind in the Willows.

Only just catching up on the latest. So, this Charlotte Owen lass has blatantly just been given a life peerage for sucking off the PM, yeah?

If you're following the allegedlies, it's either that or he's doing right by one of his illegitimate kids.

It's obviously not for any non-grubby reason.

She's either got a little Boris in her, or she's had a little Boris in her.

Compo for belatedly realising it was both?

Early last year , I commented on a banner hung over the Holte End proclaiming "Reg Evans RIP". Reg was a life long Villa supporter and also a life long Socialist who detested the Tories. He told me a story involving Boris being employed by Wolverhampton paper, the Express and Star, which he referred to as the Express and Stasi ! The story was that Johnson was sacked from there for either incompetence or plagiarising , or some such behaviour. Anyone know if that story has any substance ?

It's confusing a couple of true stories.

Johnson worked for the Express and Star for a few months when he was starting out as a journalist, sent to get experience after getting a job at the Times thanks to his connections.

He later got sacked by the Times for making up a quote.

Anyone remember Woking going bankrupt last week? Thought not. Well the Boris circus is burying another story about Tory Councils in the land of milk and honey.

Quote

A council lost "substantial sums of public money" because of systemic weaknesses and a "dereliction" in leadership, a government-commissioned report has found.

Thurrock Council in Essex has debts of about £1.3bn after a series of failed investments largely in solar farms.

The report said the council finance director had "unlimited authority to invest in anything he felt fit".

The council's Conservative leader said he was "deeply sorry" for the failings.

The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities intervened at the council in September and asked Essex County Council - a neighbouring local authority - to write a Best Value Inspection (BVI) report to investigate the failures and produce recommendations.

Tony McArdle OBE, the lead author of the long-awaited report, said: "Although serious mistakes have been made by individuals, the challenges facing the council stem from a series of self-sustaining, systemic weaknesses which have allowed for repeated failure."

My first thought was why local councils are  making investments? Surely they should be focussed on public services and other bodies should be responsible for investments.

Given the ridiculous amount of money involved here I can’t believe it’s simply backing a bad horse. I would not be surprised to hear about connections between public fund account holders and the private businesses getting tonnes of public money.
