I still think it can be a net good but the market has spoken with its wallets and very loudly. The government would be foolish not to listen to it. When I said a low pound is good for exports I didnt mean THAT low If they came out with this idea on 2015 it would be a good idea. Borrowing for next to nothing to boost the economy. Doing it during a crisis like today is absolutely **** insane.

Popular Post The_Rev
Gonna copy/paste a comment I saw on Reddit about a month ago. It was written before Truss won but it seemed obvious to all that she would beat Rishi. I think it was more prophetic than it seemed at the time: Quote Your mistake is thinking that they want to help. They are solely focussed on a small group of wealthy donors and voters, who will be far less effected by the oncoming crises. They fundamentally, ideologically think it is not the job of government to look after people. The State in the view of people like Truss and the right of the Tory party, is there to protect property rights, occasionally build roads, and maybe a school if you’re lucky. They think security through maintaining a military is where the governments responsibility ends when it comes to looking after people. They do not believe that they are responsible for paying your gas bill, or your electricity, or giving you money if you’re not at work. If you can’t afford your bills, or your food, it is because of choices you have made in the past, and if you didn’t work hard at school, get in to Oxbridge, and get a good job, then SUCKS TO BE YOU, maybe you should have thought about massive rises in costs and huge inflation when you DECIDED to doss about at your shitty comprehensive school and ended up in a call centre. Loser. The real hard working people in Britain will be fine, if they struggle to pay their bills then they’ll just have a word with Daddy and he’ll get them an interview with a trust fund manager so they can get a better paying job. The government KNOW that the train is going to hit you. They don’t care; it’s your own fault. If you were worthy you would already be on the train with them. Now, charitably - they may feel really bad for the people who get smeared in to man-jam by the oncoming locomotive. They may watch and frown, may even hold a press conference saying “what an awful tragedy that all these people got hit by the train we drove in to them - sadly, due to external economic and global political factors, the train was going far faster than usual and many more people were herded on to the tracks. Alas, if it wasn’t for the last Labour government perhaps more of them would have been on the train” - but they will not feel an ounce of guilt because they don’t think it’s THEIR JOB. You are an adult! You have a responsibility to yourself and your family to solve the issues that affect you - stop asking for FREE STUFF and HANDOUTS and hoping someone else will solve your problems. “What’s that? You were born in to an oppressive class system with historically low upward mobility? You were educated in an underfunded school? You were born in to a family with mental health and addiction problems? You were born to a family with no property ownership or familial wealth and have had to work to survive since you were fifteen? You are disabled and physically unable to work? PISH-POSH - if you worked harder you’d be fine, stop blaming others and using excuses to cover for your own failures. Grow up!” It’s no mystery - they don’t think their ideas will protect people from this - they just fundamentally do not think it’s their duty to protect you from this. Edit: added a smaller but equally poignant follow up. Quote I’d add to this however by saying that they see no disconnect between denying you support and also strip mining the state for themselves and their donors. They, as you explained, are wealthy and thus by their definition, successful. Because they are successful it is evidence that they are entitled to have their wealth. So when they get lucrative contracts with no oversight, it’s not corruption. Nor is it the socialist state giving them handouts. It’s the natural consequence of them being successful and thus good for the country and obviously the government simply giving things to those who are very good for the country. It’s not a handout then. It’s not quid pro quo. It is merely a logical consequence of their superior merit. You can rage all you want about corrupt rewards for cronies and friends. They simply don’t see it as the same. Edited September 28, 2022 by The_Rev 13
