Chindie Posted September 5, 2022 VT Supporter Share Posted September 5, 2022 It is darkly amusing that at a time when we have some of the biggest political questions and socioeconomic problems we've faced in living memory, we also have amongst the most pathetic crop of political figures in the country's history. Appreciate there's a bit of chicken and egg there as well but it's tragically funny. We're now lead by someone whose response to 'most of the population is getting absolutely crucified by cost rises', their response is 'tax cuts! *champagne pops*'. **** hell. Guys - people can't pay their energy bills and this is the GOOD part of the year for energy. Inflation is going mental. Petrol is stupidly expensive. The system is failing the vast majority of people, and they can see it failing. It wasn't long ago that politicians would see all that and start sweating on the thought of a short sharp chop.

The 'talent' pool is shrinking due to the collapse of political party membership. Given the poisonous state of politics why would anymore with intelligence and ability even bother? I would guess that there are more national trust members than all of the mainstream political parties put together for example. Genie
Just need another major crisis to 1) funnel public money into the pockets of their donors and 2) be blamed for collapsing economy, welfare system, NHS, crime etc etc. Maybe they’ll start arming Russia.

Chindie Posted September 5, 2022 VT Supporter Share Posted September 5, 2022 Indeed. If he wanted, Sunak could spend his days floating on a fresh bed of cocaine while a hareem of hookers noshed him off, never needing to a do a days work again. I'm not sure he's that keen to get on CV Library.

No one asked me whether she had my permission to govern. Nor any one of the millions upon millions who will vote her out. Time will come soon though. A reckoning. If he can't beat Truss he has no hope. I expect a few years on the back benches and then time to leave politics to spend more time with his money. It was quite a short time at the top really which shows he didn't really had large support base in the party, was just flavour of a month when he was giving everyone money for staying at home. He, along with many other Tories now have the title of former MP/chancellor/whatever and when the next election comes around will probably be quite happy to sack it in and start making some real money in the corporate world without doing any real work. She offers him a job slightly below the level that he would see himself in the name of "unity" and "bringing the party together". He then declines, snipes from the sidelines and tells everyone that he would be better. Johnson did it with Hunt (defence).

Yes and Hunt spent 3 years on the back benches, chairing the health committee, being a vocal opponent of Johnson, slowly building up support.... and then lost in the first round of this year's leadership raffle. I doubt Sunak would want to embarrass himself doing that.
trekka Posted September 5, 2022 VT Supporter Share Posted September 5, 2022 Priti Patel has resigned from Government. Resigned before sacked. Sky News Writing a letter to Boris Johnson on Monday afternoon, Ms Patel said she will now "champion many of the policies and causes I have stood up for" from the backbenches. 1
