Do you think her numbers will improve (from her perspective) because they are pretty awful as it stands. Top 7 words to describe her are all negative. 73% dislike her a little (12%) or a lot (61%). 82% thinks she’s not in touch a little (13%) or not in touch at all (69%) 80% think she’d either be not very good PM (12%) or bad (68%). What a shambolic starting position as next best person to lead this country.

No, they'll get absolutely worse for her The general public, the non-switched on politically, lets say about 50% of the population really won't know that much about her YET When she becomes PM, they won't be able to avoid knowing who she is and they'll absolutely hate her, she won't resonate with the public and her gaffes of which there will be plenty (you only have to look back a few hours for the latest one) will rapidly turn her into a figure of fun. They'll hate her and laugh AT her

Has that ever happened when a PM has been elected mid term? Normally it’s a period of turmoil that brings a change of PM midway through. There was not a wave of optimism for Gordon Brown or Theresa May either was there?

I guess being mid-term and not a public vote you’re right that it’s unlikely. However, off the back of a compulsive lying criminal who long overstayed his welcome it would not be inconceivable to be excited by a change of leader. However what we have is serious apprehension that it genuinely is going to be another shit show.

Johnson was a Mid-Term PM and did iirc get an opinion bounce for the Tories EDIT: John Major too I think

They'll hate her and laugh AT her I think that'll take a little while. She'll get in, say some headline stuff about cutting people's taxes and helping them with the cost of living, and that's going to give her a boost with the barely interested majority. Give it a few months, though....

You raise an excellent point, she should have hired a bus and painted “let’s stop paying people up north the same as the people in London and instead give the NHS £170m extra per week”

sharkyvilla
She reminds me of when they picked Iain Duncan Smith as leader. He was probably the Tory member's wet dream like Truss seems to be but totally inadequate as a leader.

Hobsons Choice Posted August 2, 2022 VT Supporter Share Posted August 2, 2022 Liz Truss reminds me of Kang and Kodos in the election episode of the Simpsons. Saying whatever makes the crowd cheer, reversing it if they boo, and being barely able to pass as human.
