Stevo985 Posted July 11, 2016 VT Supporter Share Posted July 11, 2016 Said it before but just reminds me of Spore once all the evolving was done. And that was **** terrible. Remains to be seen if this will be better...
villa4europe
to me it looks like an indie game that got received really well so they've tacked on some features and stretched it to a £50 game
alreadyexists Posted July 14, 2016 VT Supporter Share Posted July 14, 2016 Pre-ordered my copy yesterday, really looking forward to it. The notion of an infinite game in a procedurally generated universe sounds amazing.

Stevo985 Posted July 14, 2016 VT Supporter Share Posted July 14, 2016 Yeah. Like I keep saying, Spore was exactly that. A procedurally generated universe that went on forever. It was terrible.
alreadyexists Posted July 14, 2016 VT Supporter Share Posted July 14, 2016 I'm just really, really in to space stuff. Not trying to convince anyone else that it's good as I've no idea yet, I'm just excited to get it preordered as I can't wait to play it.

The early levels were shallow and the space level was just you running around putting out fires all the time. No Mans Sky looks like it will have the exact opposite problem. Ha ha, exactly. I love open world games, the last few Far Cry games and GTA games were amazing and I love space, so this seems perfect. Not to mention the fact virtual realms are much better than the misery of the real world.
hogso
Some guy has bought an early copy for an extortionate amount of money and uploaded a near 30 minute game play video. It appears to be exactly what I expected it to be. I'm one of those weirdos that loved the planet exploration stuff in Mass Effect, and this looks like that plus minecraft, which I also loved. How tiresome running around and gathering resources will get...who knows. The amount of crafting in game seems very, very substantial do maybe eventually you can craft or buy a buggy or something. The planet on show wasn't particularly interesting, although there were some unexpected moments, and of course it was huge. Definitely have the impression that the people who think they'll like it will love it, and for the people who are questioning how much there is to do, well, not too much to change anyone's mind at the moment, I'd say. One thing that I'm sure I read/heard about was the ability to name planets/creatures/plants yourself. That wasn't in the gameplay video, instead he'd scan things and they'd get a name automatically. Perhaps it's an upgrade?

It may be that was something they wanted but just like how you can't upload custom avatars on console because porn, they likely realised pretty fast that planets will devolve into inappropriate names. Maybe it is an upgrade, or maybe it gives you a random name that you can then edit later. I hope it's still in as while there is like 0.00001% chance of meeting another player in this game, just knowing a planet I named can be found by others is cool to me. Ginko
I doubt that's it, hundreds of games allow you to name characters and contain word filters to avoid that sort of thing. To be honest, if this galaxy is as huge as they're saying it is then I'm going to get sick of naming the damn things anyway so it's not a deal breaker for me. Not sure why they wouldn't include it as an option, mind you.
dubbs
30 hours to complete I hear. Well to reach the centre of the galaxy anyway. Not sure whether to buy this or not when it's released. Is there a review embargo until release day?

He exploited an item that is easy to find which had an absurdly high sale price so he could upgrade his warp drive faster than regular players would be able to. The game is still massive and the average player playing the game to explore will reach the center after several hundred hours. So just because one guy with the offline version of the game got to the center using an exploit doesn't mean much.
dubbs
Ok thanks. Didn't want to read to much directly from the guy so I could avoid spoilers. Didn't know about the exploit.

villa4europe
I kind of assumed that if it was a great game and I enjoyed the concept of it I'd never actually "complete" it the exploration element and randomly bumping in to other people ala journey is where the fun will be, there's every danger people will fully upgrade their ship but just carry on exploring
dubbs
No pre-release reviews because of an extensive day one patch apparently. New content, fixes and balancing.
Daweii
Makes sense in light of that exploit. I am sure they are getting hate for this as gamers see no pre-release review code as bad news, but I would rather accurate reviews than incorrect assessments based on pre-patched code.
