BG_Villa_Fan
That's like Villa getting rid of Sherwood. Poor treatment. On the other hand they're supposedly getting a better, more proven manager.

Zatman
loyalty doesnt exist in football its a business. Plus he was a Head Coach not a manager Im sure he will be compensated well and also his CV will be a lot better so he wont have a problem finding work
PaulC
Yes the Premier League is a different level altogether. I don't see a problem with it.
Guest
dont see the problem, happens a lot on the continent and im sure Jokanovic knew what he was getting into We win the FA Cup and then sack Sherwood. Would you see a problem?
Zatman
If we brought in Ancelotti or Mourinho I wouldnt same way I dont have a problem getting rid of Guzan if we bring in a better goalkeeper
Guest
Can't agree. I've been a critic of Sherwood, but if he wins us the cup, he keeps his job - no matter what.
Isa
That's an odd one. Flores - who is the reported replacement - is a good coach however.
BOF Posted May 26, 2015 Moderator Share Posted May 26, 2015 There are 2 perspectives here. From Zatman's point of view yes sh*t happens and we see it in football. But from pretty much everyone else's point of view, we don't have to like Watford for doing it and we don't have to stop ourselves from saying it's a shitty thing to do to someone, no matter the justification. Zatman
oh yeah I dont think you have to agree with it but it happens. Loyalty is a 2 way street as Villa fans should know about that with MON. Imagine Jokanovic got a better job offer a few days before the season started he isnt going to stay at Watford because they are loyal to him today
PaulC
Sherwood's case is totally different. I wouldn't swap him for anybody right now.
choffer Posted May 26, 2015 VT Supporter Share Posted May 26, 2015 (edited) I don't see the problem. His contract had expired, they offered him improved terms a few times and Jokanovic held out. They decided they'd reached their limit and looked elsewhere. As for the Brentford story, alluded to in the OP, again it's not reflective of what happened. It's hardly surprising, given the ongoing media "narrative" that's been peddled. Warburton has done a great job at Brentford but the owner, Benham has clear plans for the direction of travel for the club as a whole. This included the installation of a continental style DOF (not to be confused with an Irish style BOF) at this point in proceedings. Warburton had a one-year rolling contract, at his behest and when Benham said he was pulling the trigger on the DOF appointment, he gave Warburton the opportunity to stay under the new structure. Warburton declined, they both shook hands and Benham went to work on finding a new Head Coach (appears to be Marinus Dijkhuizen from the looks of it). It drives me cracker to keep hearing that Warburton was sacked. He took the job in the first place, knowing the direction of travel and when it got to a certain point, he jumped. Simple-as. BOF Posted May 26, 2015 Moderator Share Posted May 26, 2015 The Brentford thing was a bit different though. Their owner has bought into this new statistics-based method of buying and playing, and Warburton flat-out rejected to go along with it so it was more a mutual parting of the ways. The key being that Warburton had the choice to stay on and do as his employer wanted. He chose not to do that. Whereas Jokanovic had no such choice. choffer Posted May 26, 2015 VT Supporter Share Posted May 26, 2015 Aye, the writing was on the wall in January when Benham was going to stump up for several new players that the moneyball (which I presume is like a magic 8-ball) had shown would significantly improve the squad's chances of promotion, only for Warburton (allegedly) to scupper the deals. Getting rid of Warburton. Sorry Stefan - was busy re-writing my post completely when you replied. Your point addressed in my edited post

Where the hell is the loyalty? That fans don't see an issue with it shows that football is shit. This is a bit premature. But I do think one of the biggest mistakes football clubs make these days is holding onto managers for too long through loyalty. We've been guilty of it ourselves with MON, imo. It's easy to say in retrospect, but I think sometimes clubs making difficult decisions like this pushes them forward in the long run. That being said, not even giving the current manager a chance is a step too far imo.
